I'm looking at buying a new Toshiba today, but will have to buy online.

This is a business purchase, not generally for entertainment.

How glossy is screen? Are reflections a big deal?

My daughter's HP DV6 has a glossy screen and I'm not sure I could use it because of this. I'm concerned that the Toshiba will be much the same.

    Thanks for your opinions.

What model are you talking about? Not all Toshiba screens are the same.

Satellite L650-BT2N23 - website doesn't specify the screen
    Satellite A660-BT2N23 Laptop - website
some others with HD TruBrite® LED Backlit display

actually, I contacted Toshiba and they tell me that the only one with any kind of matte is the Tecra.

I can't stand the glossy, reflective screens so I guess Toshiba is out. Too bad, it was my first choice in an economical notebook.

I don't know where you are but it is my understanding that the Portégé's sold in the US are equivalent to the Tecra's sold in Canada. My Canadian 13" Tecra R700, which I presume is the same thing as a US Portégé R700, has a matte screen.

So I'm guessing that all Portégés in the US also have matte screens.

Seems like almost all new laptops have a glossy screen.

My new A505 has a glossy screen but I don't have a problem using it in most conditions. Reflections could be a problem in a bright office environment or outdoors.

I use the computer with a 24" Dell LCD monitor most of the time. It has a matte surface that is easier on the eyes.
