the spec say only 3.5 hours . sounds a bit low to me for a centrino based laptop.

    what you guys getting ?

i just placed an order for one , and im concern about this.
usually if they say 3.5 it's less .
had HP before that claim 5 and was only 3.5

    thanks Danny

The first day I had mine (before I returned it because it had a faulty charging board) I got about 1.2 hours of battery life running prime95 at full CPU load, with a dvd playing, and had the wifi on. The fan was on for the entire duration as well pumping out the heat from the CPU since it was under full load. I had all the power saving stuff turned off.

I am guessing that if you had the cpu clocked down with the little toshiba utility, and screen brightness down, and were not doing that many things, you could get a good 3 hours of life from it. I would hope at least 2.5 hours when playing a dvd.

I would be able to tell you more, but I returned the laptop about 4 days after I got it from toshiba since I was disappointed with it being DOA. The thing worked great, it just wouldn't charge while the unit was turned on. I ordered a Tecra M2 to replace it a few days ago.. lets hope this works out of the box, otherwise I am dropping the whole laptop thing completely.

Hi, personally I think that the Celeron M processor gets better battery life than a Pentium M. I bought a Satellite M35X with a Celeron M and I get a hefy 4-hours battery time typing up a word document and browsing the internet (wired).

That is mechanically impossible. The celeron has the advanced power steeping features disabled, and can never run as long as the regular M.

You may want to check the battery type in your M35X, if you're capable of getting 4hrs with a Celeron M, the battery may be a 12 cell battery. The Toshiba M30/M35 series of notebooks is one of the models/brands that carry a 12 cell battery for a Pentium M/Celeron M notebook. This could explain the hefty numbers. Own6volvos is correct, a Celeron M should not be able to out run a comparable Pentium M.

Yes, but don't forget that this is with Toshiba's Power Management features on. See, the Satellite and Toshiba can control the speed of the processor for example, with the (Long life) mode on it cuts the processor performance in half. [So 1.4 GHz Celeron M -- Long Life Mode = 700 MHz opeating speed] Which in the long run gives you better battery life. [ :D][ ;)]

Then its great. i thing it would make sense to invest in Toshiba machine with Celeron M processor and save $120 on processor alone as celeron m delivers almost the same performance of pentium M

The only plus point of pentium M was to run in slow speed (speedstep technology) to save battery. . If toshiba is able to achive this using there prower management s/w Celeron M is defenitly a good choice

I read in toms that when celeron m was force to run in low speed it gained some batter life also it deliverd almost same performance as that of pentium M
