i really want to buy an m30x with Centrino 1.6, 512mb ram, Ati 128mb VRAM. But there was a 10 percent off a while ago in september. does toshiba have coupons often? maybe by christmas? i would wait probably till christmas if they're going to have better deals on their CPU upgrades. right now they have $75 off instant. what do you guys think? how much of a great difference is there between a 1.6 vs 2.0ghz? I want to run photoshop, doom 3, some dvd compressing. will more ram help the computer out? or a hitachi 7200rpm drive make it even faster that it would be just as quick as a 2.0ghz (boot up, loading apps, etc.)

I don't think Toshiba has a lot of discounts. The best time is usually on big event, things like Back-To-School and Christmas.

You will see a performance increase by getting a 2.0Ghz CPU. Since you mentioned that you will be doing some DVD compressing, the CPU speed will definitely help. It won't help that much for Doom 3, but the 128MB ATI 9700 video card will.

Adding ram to the system will also help the overall performance of the system. As will a 7200rpm HDD.

Adding a faster HDD and more ram will not make the system work as fast as a 2.0Ghz CPU. It'll give you a performance increase above you're current CPU speed, but not all the way up to a 2.0Ghz performance.
