    1. release the battery than always use it with power chord or
    2. use battery, let it charge after full use with power chord?

Just let it charge, it will stop accepting charge when it's full.

This site says leaving a full lithium-ion battery in while the AC is plugged in can reduce capacity over time due to heat, not overcharging. I'm torn because if I leave the battery out I have a big gaping hole in the back of my laptop. They should sell a battery bay cover or something, I can't find anything like that online for my Satellite M100.

The Toshiba manual also said you shouldn't leave the battery in while the ac power is on.

Does anyone have any advice on this issue?

Well, I had my computer run for a few hours last night and then felt around the battery slot and it wasn't warm, all the heat is in the front center.. so I think it'll be okay to leave the battery in afterall.
