hey guys, i just bought an X205-s9359...i was wondering what you guys recommend about the bloatware. should i just delete them or reinstall windows? which ones do u suggest i delete and which should i keep??
also, are there any updated drivers for anything that have been released by toshiba?? thanks
-
I would recommend to reinstall Vista from original DVD (not the recovery disk that comes with notebook, it will install all bloatware back).
If you want to use 4Gb of memory in the any near feature, install Vista x64. Vista x32 will see only 3Gb max, and it will be a pain to reinstall everything later.
Drivers are regulary updated on the Toshiba support site.
For some stuff (ie graphics, LAN/WLAN, audio, turbo memory) the more newer drivers is from respective vendors websites, not from toshiba -
where do i get the vista cd??
and some of the drivers...the geforce8700 specifically, nvidia said that i had to get it through toshiba -
You can get video driver from nvidia, and replace the .inf file from laptopvideo2go website - it will enable support for mobile chips.
Vista DVD - dunno, lend it from somebody
Since you have bought a proper license to Home Premium with the notebook, it does not matter much from which source you will install it. -
It has links to where you can get the vista anytime upgrade dvd for $5, it also walks you on how to backup your activation settings so you will not have to re-activate vista, I did this on my 9349 and it works just fine. Good Luck!! -
Also note the CD key sitting on the bottom of your computer. That'll work for activation as well.

does the 5 dollar dvd work for vista ultimate as well???
-

where the heck do you get a 5$ vista disk???
-
compusa.com, it's the Vista Anytime Upgrade Disc, and has all the Vista versions on it... basicly, it's a great tool when you don't get an OS disc with your laptop. Just use the key you've got on the bottom of your laptop, you'll more than likely have to call Microsoft to activate after the install as they don't seem to let ya always activate online, but it does work out good for a clean install of vista... whick is way better than the stock toshiba bloated version

and if ya need the 64 bit version of the disc:

ok...lets say i do a clean install of vista....will i be able to get the web cam and thumb print reader to work?? and also what if i want some of the toshiba apps like the hd-dvvd player....can i still get those??
-
oh ok so its just the disc no key.. i have the download direct from microsofts web site so i have a full copy .. and my keys i have multiple for business use so i guess im good then lol
-
yeah, as long as you have a valid key you'll be good... you may have to call instead of doing it online to activate, but, you'll be good to go... the upgrage discs are just install discs waiting for a valid key! Any version best I can tell, whatever you have a key for!
As for the fingerprint and web cam, etc, you can get all the software and drivers for that from the Toshiba website, under support, then just select your model and there they are... pick what ya want or need, but you don't really anything but some of the drivers. It's all there though, but, if ya install it all you aren't doing much better than an out of the box version.... -
I did a clean install with the vista anytime upgrade dvd, it actually came in the box with my 9349, I just used abrbeta3 to backup my activation info and it game me my cd key which I used to do the clean install then restored the activation info with abrbeta3 and then installed all the drivers, all is still working fine and did not need to call microsoft to reactivate vista.

does the x205-s9359 have turbo memory?
-
-
I wonder how much the turbo memory helps improve performance?
Has anyone tested that to see the difference between the 9359 and the sli1. -
Since it will not work with synthetic tests, its hard to measure accurately.
Hovewer the effect in slightly better performance in ordinary work is noticable. -

All caching & boost in Vista goes from OS side (ReadyDrive & ReadyBoost). Since XP has no such prefetchers & writeback cache support, even if Intel will make driver for XP it wont be of much use...
All that Intel can make from it in XP is 1-Gig "internal flash disk"
just bought an X205-s9359
