A friend bought a new Toshiba Satellite A135-S4656 laptop on his last visit to America, approx. 7months ago.
He has brought it to me as he cannot see ( and neither can I)why, when the shift key is held down and then the @ sign is pressed, the result is a ".
Also if the shift key is held down and the" is pressed you get the @ sign as well as the shift key pressed down and then press the # key the £ sign comes up.I cannot change these keys around as below the @ key is the number 2.
Any answeres will be most welcome.

The best "explanation" I can come up with is that there is a difference between a US and european kb.
The european has one more (physical) key, so perhaps it's because it's using a UK-setup on an american machine, having to designate other keys to make it work?

Thanks,, but I'm not sure that is the real reason, though. I hope someone else will chime in. :)
