OK, so, I have a toshiba satellite p105 s6064. I've been using it as a desktop for some time now, since the screen broke on it. well, in the past few weeks, actually just since I got my new monitor, I've noticed that it's been shutting off on its own. I was drawing a picture on photoshop and it shut down without warning, which pissed me off since i hadn't saved. but i turned it back on and thought nothing of it. then it did it a few more times randomly. figured, maybe it's too hot. so i opened it up and moved it a little more into the open. the vents have always been exposed, and its not like it's buried, just pushed back to the back of my desk and kept closed. well, friday it shut down again. i was annoyed but turned it back on. then saterday at some point it did it again i think, but then that evening I know for a fact that it did it, i had it turned on, then I went out and when I came back it was off. yesterday when i woke up it was turned off. i turned it on and then later left, and it was off again when I came back. This morning it was off, I turned it on at 8 am, then went to class, got back at 11 and it was off again! This is really annoying, and I'm worried about my computer. I can't afford a new one. Does anyone have a clue what might be causing this? Please help!

The internal cooling system may well be clogged up with dust. See here for an example of what happens with time.

You can run HWmonitor to check the tmperatures. if they start going above 80C then overheating is the likely problem and shutdown may occur over 90C.

Cans of compressed air and vacuum cleaners can help, but the best action is to get inside and clear out any bird's nests. If you find the internals very clean then we know that's not the problem. If the cooling system is clean but the temperatures are high then the cooling system may need to be reseated.

to make a long story short...
right after I posted, it turned off.
I opened it up, cleaned it out, and broke it, lol. It looks like a cheap fix though. In my attempts to not break it by not removing the wireless card, I forgot to unplug the antenna, and...well, I ripped them off. Nice, huh? Anyways, I got it back up, but have no internet as the appartments I'm living in provide internet, but it's only wireless. yay. so i'm borrowing a roomie's laptop to tell you that I just booted back up and all those 100s are now 49s! So i guess that means I win, overall. Except for the whole, me being a stupid impatient girl and ripping the wires harder when they didn't come out when I pulled gently.
So....I'm now ordering from china, and should be able to get online in oh...one or two weeks. this sucks. but at least my computer is not dead.
    thanks yall! I appreciate it!

I wouldn't buy another Toshiba again. I already returned one, that will be the last.
