I admit my laptop is old, its a Toshiba Satellite L35-S1054. My laptop has been working perfectly, until my trip home. My mom packed it up for me (coming home from college) and she didn't turn it off. I got home and immediately (as soon as I noticed it was on) turned it off and plugged it up. I left it like that for a day to let the battery do its thing. I turned it on and horizontal bars started running up and down the screen. It finally made it to the screen that has all my icons, but as soon as I started to move the mouse, the screen started to pixelate, faded out white, then its colors got all messed up, as if it were over saturated or going to negative colors. I decided to run a small diagnostic myself and plug it into a monitor, which still didn't work right because only the background and pointer appeared on the other monitor. I soon figured out that squeezing the screen would make it stop doing the weird stuff...
I turned it on today, and it runs like nothing ever happened. I talked with my boyfriend (who is a genius with computers) and we narrowed down a few possibilities:
Graphics Card
Screen is blown
Battery (battery wasn't in right and screen went black b4)
or Time for a New Laptop (please don't be!!!)
So please tell me what you all think! I am confused! I need this thing for school and as a graphic designer, I can't live without my laptop. I don't know if it will last till next year (I'm shooting for a PSP this year) or if I need to buy a new one now.

i think it the GPX card, which can be fried if vents were blocked...just a guess...

sure it's not hardware?
I'm quite sure it's hardware. pls. get it checked. -
If you twist the screen, does it suddenly freeze up and slowly wash out into a bunch of multicolored vertical stripes until you twist the screen again? (by twisting, I mean putting one hand on each of the top corners of the lid, and moving one hand forward or backward to flex the screen). If it acts exactly the way I just mentioned, then your screen is most likely damaged. I have seen "beaten-up" laptops (not saying that you treat yours like this) exhibit this particular screen problem before, and I have found no solution but to get a new screen or the wiser choice of getting a new laptop.

It is always good to do a backup of your data, you know, because anything can happen anytime. In my case, my keyboard went crazy while i was writing a final report during exam time.
So, backup, backup!
in any case your Hard drive can be transfered to the new/another laptop, with little or no additional configuration.
Good luck
little bit of help please!
