Remove the battery and unplug the laptop from the mains. Leave it like that for an hour or two. Go watch a few movies...Come back later and try again without the battery. Leave the battery out and connect the laptop to the mains. If it still does not power up, then you unfortunately have to send it in for repairs as it's most probably the power circuit which has gone bad =/

Glad it worked for you :)

Usually it is static buildup which "kills" your laptop...leaving it unplugged for a while is the trick to cure it ;)

    Sounds like motherboard damage

Try it without the battery, then see if it does the same thing in safe mode and keep me informed ;)

do you know where ic an get a replacement one? i can open the case and i know enough about pcs not to mess up the switch, already cleaned like a solid inch thick piece of dust form between heatsink and fan lol.

I hope you get everything working for your M45.

My M45 is in repair because the AC port, the part directly connected inside the computer, seems to have wobbled off the motherboard or something. It rattles around inside there -- and hence never charges or even powers up =((

I have no idea how expensive this will be to fix.

And the worst part is I don't know how this happened.

RedSensiStar, the M45 uses DC harness. This is connected to the motherboard via a cable that is appx 2 innches long. if the AC Port (its called a dc jack or dc harness) is pushed, this means that the plastic frame of the dc harness is broken of the plastics of the base holding the dc harness in place are broken, or both.

How much you will be charged to repair this, i dont know, but the actual parts cost is around 75 dollars assuming both the harness and base are broken.

ashnaile, I would suggest you restore the system using the Toshiba restore disks. If you still experience problems after that, then its clear that the issue is hardware related (or BIOS) and not software. Until then, its impossible to say based on what you have said.

if you have a usb floppy drive I would suggest you download the latest bios from toshiba and update the bios. If you dont have a usb floppy, you can update the bios while in windows (only do this after you have restored the OS to factory defaults).

So the fan does not spin at all? On some versions of the M45 the fan does not spin up at POST and will only spin up when the CPU becomes hot enough, so be sure that the fan is bad before you go and have it replaced.

If the fan is dead, its not just a "3 minte fix". You will need to completely dissasemble the computer to replace it.

well, it took me like 10 minutes to get is almost completely disassembled after finding a guide, but there is a wire i cant figure out so im leaving it alone and letting my dads business pc guy do it, its a wire that goes under the board on top and bottom boards so i cant reach, let alone unplug it, and it only allowed about an inch and a half of play on the wire.

if you take a picture i can tell you exactly what it is and where it goes. but its either the modem or s-video cable.
