hey guys jst checking if anyone could help me pick a laptop. I am just looking for a decent not too expensive laptop for school work and internet. Also for basic gaming such as nhl2005 or something along those lines. I am also planning on watching movies on the dvd. I got these laptops in mind,

which is on sale for 1200.

    http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pr...angid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10062830&catid=22495
on sale for 899 but planning on upgrading the ram to 512. Do you know how many ram slots does this laptop have? because I would prefer just buying a 256 and adding to it.

on sale for 1099 i dont see a much difference from the above one to this other than the ram so wondering if this price is worth it.

    this one is 1200.

and at last this one http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pr...angid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10063398&catid=22495
its on sale for 1400. this seems to be a good one but then i am not sure if its worth for the price comparing to the other choices I have mentioned. plus i dont really want to spend 1400 on a laptop now since i am for sure to upgrade or get a new one in like 2-3 year period.

well thanks for all who is helping down with this and hope to hear before sep 1 bc most sales ends by then. have a great day or night... :)

None of the cards on those machines are all that great, but the requirements for 2005 aren't that high. The Toshiba Celerons battery life won't be that great. Option five will be a speedy performer, the battery life will not be as good as the Pentium Ms in options one and four. The Compaq is a little smaller and lighter. That would be my first choice. Good Luck.

I think the 4th is best, including the price and performance.

I'm about to buy a new R4000 directly from HP. I've configured one with a 3200+, 128 gpu, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB 5400 RPM HD, XP Pro, MS Office Basic, Double Layer CD/DVD, one year warranty with accident insurance....all for $1341.99.... so why buy from a reseller?

    Togus,

In Canada, you can buy direct fro HP, but they only have pre-configured models, so you can't customize the settings. Actually, the only manufacturer to offer customizable notebooks is Dell. Either you get a Dell or get a barebones unit and add the remaining parts yourself.

    JJJ,

I'd recommend going with the Compaq Presario V2310. Mainly because it has a decent CPU and the graphics card is better than the rest (other than the R4125), but it's smaller & lighter than the R4125, making it a good choice when you want to be mobile. You'll probablu also get better battery life and a cooler running notebook than the R4125. With a cheaper price as well, why not?
