I have always had Dells and have been happy with them. However this will be my daughters laptop,so she picks. She really likes the A505-6965 and it seems to get positive reviews. Most of the posts seem positive, any negatives to this machine? How is their warranty(always had onsite with Dell).Should I purchase the bestbuy warranty?Your help would be great to make a final decision.Thanks.

I bought the A505-S6965 a few days ago from Best Buy and I like it. The only negative things on it are its slick feeling keyboard when typing and it shows fingerprint marks (make sure you have a microfiber cloth).

Do not buy the Best Buy service plan. Its $150 for two years and one of my friend's had an awful experience with them. Get an extended warranty at www.squaretrade.com. It costs $130 for three years. If you are paying by credit card, it may add an additional year of warranty from the manufacturer's warranty. Generally I don't buy extended warranties, because they are a waste of money.

Dell makes good desktops, while their laptops have build quality issues. I prefer theses brands of laptops over Dell any day of the week: HP (above average build), Sony (excellent build), Toshiba (very good build), and Apple (excellent build).

The one I am typing on is 9 years old.
I am buying a new one today because I need it for school.....38yrs old, almost done, thank God.

I like their interface controls, they make it easy to update, I called customer service maybe 3 times in 9 yrs.

Lol. You sound like my mother. When it was my turn to pick out my laptop for college she kept insisting dells but caved because she understood it was my choice. (Then as of 3 days ago.. all the dells died in my house. ironyyy. ) Anyway. It is a good computer. I do not have the A505 build but I have the A500 model so its the same thing but different specs. The build quality is good. It is sturdy. The only issue is fingerprints!

Edit: The generic toshiba warranty doesn't have onsight but I purchased that as extra with my laptop. I do not believe best buy lets you do that but I have spoken to Toshiba Tech Support twice and they've been nothing but kind. :] And you can understand them!!! >_>
