I'm getting ready to buy a notebook for college, which must last through all four years. I want a notebook with can be carried in my backpack along with books and stuff. It must have 802.11g, and at least 40GB (60GB being more preferable. The processor must be pentium m, but im not sure which speed is right for me cause I listen to music on my pc just about all the time and im on the internet most of the time, im a light gamer (i dont play many games, only when i have time) Im also not sure whether to find a notebook with DVD+-RW since the speed they write in notebook are currently very slow compared to desktops, but it must have CDRW/DVD-ROM. Im not sure about video memory (i dont know whether 32MB is enough or 64MB), since im a light gamer (i usually play fifa 2004 and need for speed) and battery life must be descent. My university, is getting ready to sell some dells and toshibas at discounts from $300-$400. the toshiba m2 seems nice and small, but some people have complained about the screen, the battery life, and performance, and cnet doesnt like the keyboard, so im not sure if its worth the discount to get a toshiba m2 with just XGA,since ive heard the screen isnt that great. Im looking at the new acer aspire 2012, it comes fully loaded with lots of good stuff, but the size of it is of great concern, and its such a great value and great quality. im also looking at the IBM r40 at newegg http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=34-146-021&depa=0 it sounds like a great value, with great battery life and screen, but the processor speed and video memory is of some concern. please send any toshiba m2 recommendations please

hmm, there's a lot that's been said about the Tecra M2 on these boards already that should answer your questions. here's a couple of links to start with

try using the search link at the top of this forum and search on "Tecra M2" and you should dig up quite a bit. I'm not a fan of XGA, I much prefer SXGA on a business laptop so that would prevent me from going with that purchase. The IBM R40 is good, but the newer R50 would be nicer...if you're looking to save money buying a one to two year old model notebook might be a good option though. -
Why does everyone thing you cant get a tecra m2 with sxga graphics? I bought one direct from them and you can go on their site and configure with sxga, no problem!
