I have been looking at the Toshiba p105 and noticed the p105 has a max resolution of 1440 x 900, this seems like an odd resolution for a 17" display. Can anyone who has this model comment on that resolution ? Also, is the screen on this model the shiny or matte finish ?

It has a resolution of 1440x900 and its glossy, if you want a higher resolution look at the more expensive p100 series.

I have P100 with 1680x1050 but still working on 1440x900 since the max hurts eyes a bit.

I have an M60 17" with 1440 x 900, and I sure wouldn't want it any finer. Already I find the text hard to read at times, but I hate the way the 120 dpi font looks. Cleartype bugs me too, so I deal with it.
