please help me out with laptop formating

i have problem with this toshiba laptop, i was trying to format the laptop with new xp home edition and while following the processing, the system started promlem and i can not go on to format again.
Anytime i start the laptop with xp cd in it and press f2 and the normal direction to press c to start from cd and f to format but instead of formating it will comes up with error loading operating system. unlike the normal formating blue screen, it will only show error loading operating system. And the laptop can not even run normal as it used to be before i started the formating process.
What can i do to format the laptop.

The laptop was in portuguese before i wanted to upgrade it to English with english xp but when i could not i decided to format it to English instead as a new installation before i started to encounter the problem i stated earlier.

I need your help and i believe in the able house to solve this problem for as soon as possible.

So you inserted your CD? Did it boot up at the beginng?
