Yes, a tiny amount of water got in through my bag during a rain storm, got onto the motherboard, and it won't turn on when I press the power button. It's an X505-Q896, part number PQX33U-052025, and the mb part no is A000053720. When you open it up there's hardly anything to notice that could have caused this.

I bought it in the USA in March, then moved to China for a job contract. The rain incident happened mid-July. I took it to the Xiamen Toshiba repair shop (which had previously fixed a minor problem that was under warranty, but of course this is not under warranty because the damage was my fault) and they said that I would have to pay for a new mb and for it to be installed. Fair enough, I thought. But then they said they couldn't find an mb for it and that I should just give up on it.

Well, I don't want to give up on it, so I contacted National Parts Depot and Spare Parts Warehouse, and both, after several weeks, told me that the spare mb model has been "obsoleted" and is no longer available. So that's it. What the hell do I do now? Isn't there at least a similar motherboard that's close enough to the same as the broken one? Can't I just order one of those? And if so, how do I find it?

Any advice appreciated, thanks, Hal Dace

Is the GTX 460m GPU detachable? If so, maybe upgrade to the Sandy Bridge Qosmio motherboard (You'll also have to buy a new CPU). It'll be similar to my q8102X

Thanks. I imagine the new cpu is very expensive, but it might be a good idea anyway.
