Its a 2630qm and has 2x ddr3 slots I know other vendors list 4gb as the cap but 8gb sticks work in some cases since they are kinda new. Anyone know if this is the case for my machine? I would love16gb but don't wanna risk it.

I know you can put in 32gb in the g74sx with a 2630qm. 4x8gb. I just hope this board plays nice. Have you seen any posts confirming failure?

I haven't seen any posts regarding upgrading the RAM past 8 GB for the q810X-X series

However, you need to ask yourself, will you benefit from 16GB ram? If so, then it may be worth a shot.

    Good luck

well im taking a chance, i ordered the memory. I read your review of the notebook and love it. Its crazy, ive had the g73jh, g73sw, g74sx and with the latest being the 3gb gtx560m 192bit. I loved the screen on the g74 but man ill tell ya, the best one out of those 3 was the g73jh. I dont know why but this x505 seems SOO much faster even though its the gtx460m. gaming wise i notice no stuttering or lag like the 3gb gtx560m. I am super happy with this Qosmio. I can even just feel the quality in the build. Even though the specs of the g74sx are slightly better i feel as if the motherboard is gimped. Yes the g74sx has 4 memory slots, but if this qosmio works with 8gb dims im in heaven. But ya, i will post results. my 460m is running at 800/1425 and ice cold.

I agree. I too struggled between buying an ASUS G73 or the Qosmio; I'm very happy with the choice I made.
Something worth noting, once you go 18.4", it's hard to go with anything smaller [as others are 17.3"].

Good luck and let us know how the RAM turns out.

I saw a recent post you made about overclocking our gpu. Just a little fyi using msi afterburner starting with windows and clocks set the 2 options to 800/1425 it runs PERFECT. the differences overclocking any higher are not worth it, you get almost no gains at all. With the clocks i gave you , your temp stays the same and you get solid/fluid gameplay. Others say ramp up the memory higher, its not worth it I believe this is the best safest possible setting. I was considering using my boot key and nibitor to flash this permanently to the card it works so well.
