when power button is pressed, screen is blank, power light gets on, and it looks like some activity in dvd-rom, but eject button doesnt work.
and no hdd activity or fan working.

how serious the problem could be?

    thanks

same stuff on both, only power light gets on, to turn it off u need to hold it for 4seconds. so probably power supply is ok.
    can it be mainboard?

    Anyone else have any ideas?

I have this same problem. The machine powers on, Power, Battery (if the batter is in), and DVD/Expansion LED comes on, but no activity and no video. I've tried running it with only power (no battery, no DVD/Expansion, nothing but power) with the same result. No video through VGA either. The thing just isn't even POSTing.. no CPU fan, no nothing.

Could it be something else wrong is causing the CPU fan to not start, or the CPU fan not starting is causing the machine to not POST (as a safety precaution or something)..? Could it be a corrupt CMOS or something? Is there a way to reset it?

Anyone else have any ideas/suggestions? Please help. I'd really like to get this sucker working again!

The mobo seems like the main candidate. Perhaps the power connector is loose/broken.
