This is what you're saying right now: Something hurts. What's wrong? -
I hate so say it, but toshiba has had an aweful lot of issues with the A215's shutting down intermittently. Since the first generation A215's I have been following it to see if the problem has been resolved...strangely enough, 8 mos or so and the units still have this problem.
If you look at bestbuy.com or cicuitcity.com, (on customer reviews) you would unfortunetly see this issue. I was "in line" for one of these....then the problem hit pretty hard. From what i gather, if you run the processer at 100%, it stops the problem...it's a quick fix, not a real fix. I found that out on this site....(toshiba forum).
Have you contacted toshiba? -

I've had this problem too I started out with pre-installed vista moved it back to win xp home still the problem returned I removed the toshiba power saver program and the problem disappeared been two weeks and its still going strong, hope this helps.

I have had a Satellite 215 for about a year now. The first day that I got it and fired it up the screen went down after a bit. Restarted it and it did the same thing. I checked to see where the fan and any cooling vents were located and noted that I had the fan vent covered up by how I had it sitting. I made a point to allow free flow of air through it/them and have never had it happen since. 1 yr and going strong. I purchased a cheap laptop lap/desk stand which raises the unit and also allows a free flow of air. No problems at all.
I am not sure if this is your problem. Just wanted to report my experience with this laptop and this situation. I absolutely love the laptop although wish there were drivers for the wireless to work under Linux without all the workarounds that are listed in various places.
Good Luck

I own a A215-S7462 and have had it for over a year also make sure you do the latest bios update. It cured that problem for me. Make sure you are on AC power before you do it to avoid any problems. Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the bios upgrade tip but it didn't seem to help on the 215-5837. At least nothing that is automatically detected.
Still no WiFi connection.
Help -
Sorry. I got my forums mixed up. I did not mean to say that the bios upgrade did not help with the fan situation.
Good Luck
