    shopping to replace my 5105 S607

    I've been using an S607 since June 2002 have been satisfied with it. Unfortunately the video malfunctioned and it's warranteed by compusa. Comp has had the machine for two months and now announce they won't fix it. They offer a replacement used S607 or $750 cash. I'm not eager to take someone else's used machine, which they would probably have to buy on ebay so I'm shopping for a replacement.

    So far the only machine i can find that is comparable is a Dell Inspiron 8600 with a 1200x1600 resolution screen and a mobile processor. I'm having trouble finding other notebooks with this combination. Any suggestions?

    Are you looking for notebooks with the highest wide-screen resolution (1920x1200)?

    When you say mobile processor, are you referring to the Pentium M only (used exclusively in the 8600)? Or would you also include the Mobile Intel Pentium 4, the Mobile Intel Pentium 4-M, the Mobile AMD Athlon 64, and the Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M?

    Of course, there's also the Celeron M.

    My goal is to replace the S607 with like kind and quality, same or better, in all the features.

    My S607 was doing the job well enough to be adequate for another 18 months.
