so when the palmrest is touched the sound cuts out.

FWIW, from what you described it sounds like a grounding or insulation issue. Either something isnt grounded properly (namely the speakers) or that the grounding sheet on the palm rest is shorting out with something. This is a common issue with some toshibas such as the A70/75 and M30X/M35X

Ok I found the model. I just worked on the Tecra version of that laptop. I dont mean to be rude, but that is the most poorly designed Toshiba laptop i have ever seen. And it ranks up there with the most poorly designed laptop from any manufacture that I have ever seen.

When i go to work tommorow I will check up on any possible sound issues with that laptop.

When you had it apart did you see the daughterboard that sits under the lefthand side of the palm rest? This board has 2 ribbon cables that connect to the main system board. Check for any dammage in those cables and make sure that alll of hte screw for that daughterboard and motherboard are in place. They should all be F4 length screws and the boards will have labels next to the holes saying "F4". There is also an F8 screw holding on the board that has a small battery connected to it and lastly 1 F14 (or it could be a 12 or 16) near the left rear of the main system board.

I have very little experience with this laptop, but I will see if I can provide any further assistance
