Have you checked if the brightness is currently set to display at its highest setting? On my Satellite L25 you can adjust it by pressing the keys Fn+F7 or Fn+F6. Check the Fkeys for a little picture of the sun, to see if yours is the same (or your manual).

Also, I think that Vista has an adjustable brightness setting in the power management settings. I can't verify that as I don't use Vista, but it's worth checking.

Could you elaborate a bit on, "ok while warming up"? By that do you mean it's ok until you reach your desktop, or that it's ok for a certain period of time at the desktop? If the latter, about how long is it until it goes dim?

oh its ok after searching thru the forum i found the answer...

while setting itself up and getting the desktop ready with all shortcuts it was bright enough, then once everything was ready to use ti dulled....

i found a thread which said something about the ATI catalyst control centrer...it said to open it up and click 'color' and then adjust the balck and white setting...now i didnt have a blacka nd white setting but i did click a button that was labelled 'reactivate ATI colour settings" r soemthing...and whammmo i nearly had to put my sunnies on the screen was so bright again

    hurrah!!!

It sounds like an inverter problem to me.

If this is the case, you should get your laptop to local Toshiba service and let them diagnose the problem.

If it's an inverter indeed, it will be a cheap replacement, but if it's a screen problem, it will be quite costy
