I'm assuming that this is a M70-series notebook. It should get around 1-2 hours of battery life on the 6-cell.

yes it is part of the m70 lineup. what, 1-2 hrs? that low? i dont get it, how can it be so low when its a 6 cell. dell can get 4 hrs on a cel m with a 6 cell.

is that time for just using office programs? thats whay i would be using it more for during battery times. do you know of any other problems, ive heard stuff abuot the power cord input to the laptop being a problem?

BTW, THANK YOU for the reply!

That's about average work - office work, music, WiFi on, a decent screen brightness level, etc. You can't expect more than a couple hours, maybe 2.5-3 hours at most, but it is a Celerom M notebook - it won't get spectacular battery life like a P-M/Core Duo would.

I have the Toshiba Satellite m70-cl1. I got it from staples about a month ago for 878CAD. Its a very good notebook. The hard drive is a fujitsu model 5400RPM and 8MB cache and is very quiet. My sister has the m50 celeron version and she also has a 60Gig hard drive and its louder than mine (made by hitachi) and the ram is made by samsung. I got another 512DDR2 to make it 1024. The performance increase was noticable. The notebook doesn't get hot at its mainly the hard drive that gets warm. Without my notebook cooler the hard drive will go around 45C (+2/-2 around there) and is still very good. But with a notebook cooler i get around 40C (+2/-2). The software that comes with windows xp home and norton with a bunch of toshiba programs. The shell is pretty decent and the screen is a matte 15.4. (and with no dead pixels and no lcd leaking) overall the notebook is decent, fast and reliable. (the battery is modest at best with a max of 2.5hrs at absolute minimum usage) The keyboard is smooth and very good to type in.

thank you again amdvs intel, nice light sabers ;) hmm, ill try wifi off at times. i simply cannot justify spending the extra 200 for pent m, id like to, but really, im not going find a reason other than getting and extra 30 min baat life to buy the pent m.

neoFx, THANK YOU!, ive been looking for a review on this exact model, and you're the 1st. thats great, sounds good to me, 2.5 hrs is depressing, how could dell ever get 4 hrs on a celeron and a 6 cell. it blows my mind! how is the dvd burner? is there anything u dont like, hows the screen brightness, clarity? hows the video quality, as in watching dvd's? how does the comp handle multitasking? did u get a warranty?

    thanks!

    1. - how is the dvd burner?

    a. The DVD burner works fine. The speeds vary depending on what type of DVD disc you get. Toshiba has an option where you can enable normal mode or silent mode (generally speaking silent mode is used for viewing DVD's and normal mode is used for burning and such)

2 - is there anything u dont like?

    a. The fan is a tiny bit loud but its nothing compared to the old notebook i had, which had a really really loud fan so i'm satisfied (not overjoyed) with the sound of the fan. (meaning less is best)

3 - hows the screen brightness, clarity?

    a. screen brightness is above average but not superb. Mind you this has a matte screen and not the glossy kind. I was actually a little happy to know that the matte screen fairs a bit better than the glossy screen when it comes to LCD leakage in notebook screens. (from what i've read in this forum ) Clarity is nice and clear. However the screen resolution can't be changed higher than 1280X800. (that is the max screen for the notebook) But it can go 1024X728 and 800X600. however it still manages to have a very nice LCD display. The video card is below subpar but thats what i expected when i bought this notebook. I don't plan on playing games however if you decide to upgrade the ram on the notebook the option of increasing the video ram buffer goes upto 256 mb. (i have mine to 128 because thats the lowest option available b/c of the 1gig upgrade, before with 512 the options were 64, 128, 256)

    4. hows the video quality, as in watching dvd's?

    a. quality is excellent. Software dvd packaged included intervideo windvd. Viewing is very nice

    5. how does the comp handle multitasking?

    a. Multitasking works fine for normal use and above modest work. I added another 512DDR2 ram therefore multitasking efficiency increased a bit. Obviously this is an entry level notebook however this is still a very good entry level notebook.

    6. did u get a warranty?

    a. staples canada offered me warrenty but i opted with toshiba's default 1 year warrenty. (if you do decide to get this without warrenty make sure you register the hardware with toshiba for warrenty purposes)

overall the notebook is very good and very reliable. the weight is modest and not that heavy at all. I recommend this notebook to anyone looking for a notebook that won't dent their wallets

thats awesome, thatnks for the 2nd review on it. yea, well i'll see tomorrow, i'll be phoning compusmart to find out how much the extended warranty actually is. for 2 yrs thatis. if its under 150 then im going to get it, so i'll have 4 yrs in total, 1 + 2 +1 (from credit card).

Yea, then im going o buy a wireless keyboard and mouse and hook it up to my tv. yea, im going to upgrade the ram sometime soon to 1gb. hopefully i'll be able to pick it up tomorrow for 799 after 100 mail in rebate, and i get a free epson all in one.

btw, is the exterior colour grey, or orange as in your puicture?

I think they're just snap-on covers - you might be able to buy some different ones from Toshiba.
