i can't seem to find any mention of this refresh on toshiba's website or even a quick google search, but oddly enough officedepot in canada, has begun carrying them.

i must say, i'm quite impressed by what i see so far. they finally decided to catch up with the times in terms of aesthetics and the inclusion of a webcam.
and both seem to be great in terms of value (for canadian market at least), considering they're brand new to the market and carry a slight premium.
i'm surprised of the incredibly soft launch of this product...in canada! ahah

anyways, feel free to add any available info.

I'm disappointed they're only putting GeForce 7300s in the A205 models. You can't do much with those...

I saw these today at my local Circuit City and Office Depot. I have to say, aesthetically speaking, they almost seem like a step back from the previous models. The keyboards look kind of off to me, and the new keyboard font looks kind of iffy. I also found them to be less comfortable to type on.

why? the a205 series isn't catered toward the gamer crowd, it's meant for the mainstream. the inclusion of the 7300 would be the same reason why everyone is including the 7300 in low/mid end desktops, it's a slightly more powerful alternative to the intel igp, without adding siginificant cost (important for even casual vista users). here in canada, toshiba offers the intel igp then basically jumps to a ati x1600 half the time with nothing in the middle for us, casual gamers.

hmm, well i haven't seen them in person, only through a small jpeg, but so far the color scheme seems like a vast improvement. the keyboard issue is something everyone seems to be doing these days.
sony with the sz type keyboard, and hp.compaq with last year's refresh.
i can't wait to test it out when i see them in store.

Yeah, the color scheme in and of itself isn't so bad...... it's just the overall appearance of the laptop looked sort of cheap to me compared to even the previous versions. I think part of it is the font on the keyboard keys; up close the font just looks sort of "off" to me.

But yeah, take a look at it in person, this is really just my personal reaction to it.

I was curious about that.......... is Toshiba's "Labelflash" stuff essentially exactly the same as Lightscribe (i.e. can you use Lightscribe media with it)?

Will you be able to play some modern games with the 7300 though?

define "play." you can play some modern games with an nvidia 6150, the nvidia 7300 moreso.

Sorry to revive an old thread........anyone else tried one of the P200 models lately? How does the HD 2400 card work?
I did see these in person at the local futureshop, and the only thing I didn't like in terms of the hardware were the mouse buttons. They feel flimsy, and there is a lot of....play?.....before the button clicks. When you push the buttons, there is a lot of play/travel before it hits the resistance to do the click... So it feels like something that will wear out quickly. Just an initial impression.

They are kind of boxy looking too, but overall pretty nice. I even like the big toshiba logo on the back. :)

I don't like the huge logo, looks like your advertising for them.
And also for me, I will get the keyboard dirty after a while because I'm not gonna wash my hands every time I use my lappy. But it does look good.
