ok i bought a toshiba satellite on ebay. the guy told me the lcd didn't work. when hooked up to a monitor it works great on that monitor. now i flashed a flash light on the laptop screen and i can see windows in the background but its dark. would that be the inverter on the laptop. the model number is L305d-s5904. thanks for your time.

Yes, you are right. That is an inverter problem. It is located under the lcd unlike some stupid macbooks( right beside the CD room, can you believe it? i found out the hard way). In some case, it also could be the bulb. The monitor works that just mean that the integrated graphic is working.

new inverter should fix the problem. Also, moving your laptop around, and wiggle the lcd cable to see if you have a loose connection.
