i guess i can give you a hand on this since earlier while ago, i was deciding between toshiba m40-yp3 or asus w3v.

the yp3 and sf3 is quite similar so i can probably speak about it.

both the sf3 and z71v comes out weighing relatively the same (asus is 0.6lb heavier depending if you go with a 4 or 8 cell battery, weight varies a bit there) and most things in the two are the same-namely the video card.

also depending on how you customize z71v since it's a barebone.
so probably need more info from you on how you wanna customize it before i can say anything more.

but few things to take note...

    1. I believe a smaller but faster HD is better than a bigger but slower HD. If storage is what you want, you can always go with an external HD that's bigger and faster.

    2. asus comes with DDR2 but toshiba comes with DDR1 ram. ddr2 ram is much faster than ddr1

you may wanna go read about the asus z71v review in the asus board or the review board. At least i know that in the asus board, a lot has been said bout the z71v. As for the m40-sf3, it's still rather new..it only came out in mid-june. So, doubt anyone really tried it out yet but you can always refer to the m40-yp3 review since the only diff between the two is the HD. YP3 with 80gb 5400rpm and sf3, 100gb 4200rpm.
