    heres the problem
my toshiba has 2 cooling fans, one for the cpu and one for the graphics.
im currently using bios 4.00 because its the latest one that keeps both of th fans running. if i upgrade to bios 4.20 or 4.30 the graphics fan wil stop running and my computer will heat up to unreasonable tempitures such as 75-90 degrees! at bios 4.00 its at a nice heat of 35-40 degrees. the only problem is that the old bios caues laggy and choppy preformance whale the new bios fixes that. therfore i need a solution.
    specs
    toshiba satellite p100
    centrino duo processor
    nvidia gforce go 7600
    windows vista sp1
    i forgot to mention,
i belive the 64 bit OS support is the thing disabling he fan in verson 4.20 and 30 because the fan works on the self test on the POST screen.

Yea, i have a similar model. I'm currently running 4.20 BIOS since that one fixed the performance problems in vista. Heres how to fix the problem. After you apply your new BIOS reinstall your video drivers. This means uninstalling your old ones, restarting, intalling your new ones, then restart again. This should fix your fan problem. If not you need to let your laptop "cook", meaning let it reach above 90 C degrees then your fans will kick in. I had to deal with this issue (along with many others on the Nvidia forums) and it worked. I havent bothered upgrading to 4.30 since it just adds 64-bit performance boost. This is in Vista. I am also dual booting with XP and this BIOS rocks in XP!

Sorry if I replied too late, hope this helped.

Did you try to let the laptop heat up until the fans kick in?

Hey guys. I have a P100 as well, running the 4.4 BIOS. Perhaps it is the fact that I run XP MCE2005 or the fact that I have a Canadian variant, but I have not noticed any fan problems since upgrading to the 4.4 BIOS. Mine was overheating as well, but that was (most recently, on the 4.4 BIOS) due to the fact that the heatsink was clogged.

There are known issues with Vista and the P100, but I'm not sure if they fixed them with the 4.4 release. My recommendation? Try the 4.4 BIOS and see if it works. Save your old one just in case, though.

Starting from BIOS 4.20 the Vista problems have been fixed. No more stuttering. Yea, one thing i noticed about this laptop is that it really gathers alot of dust. I air it out a few times a year to keep it running cool.
