I've recently upgraded the CPU excellent move. but now I'm constantly maxing out the memory. I have another laptop that spec'ed at 4gb max, but was able to upgrade to 8gb. I'm wondering if anyone has managed to successfully upgrade their u205 to 8gb memory? If so what memory did you use?

If the specs I found are correct and it is a model with a 945GM (express) chipset, I'm afraid that should be a non-starter. The chipset will support a maximum of 4GB of RAM.
(out of interest, which CPU did you upgrade to?) -
I picked this one up for a buck.
Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0GHz 4M 667FSB sMLP CPU Doubled the cache from factory, I'm sure that's where I'm seeing the most of what I perceive as improvement.cgomes likes this. -
I can now confirm, 4gb max memory, I received the 4gb sticks, the computer will fire up just fine with one installed, but If I attempt to put anything else in the other slot, the computer just beeps at me.

Next question, Is there an upgrade to the wifi card? Mine has never had much range, and suddenly yesterday, after a windows update it's not receiving at all. (tried several things, including booting up in xp and 10, same results. No Wifi)

However, no network reception at all is a different problem. Have you checked whether the antennas are firmly attached to the card? The cables don't usually detach (on their own), but it's an old laptop and (I think) accessing the RAM modules requires some disassembly, so that's where I'd start.
