I have the u400 with the 1.86ghz CPU and I've checked HWmonitor and the CPU is running at 55-62C at idle. This is pretty alarming as it should be at most at 45C.

I've updated the BIOS but it didn't help. Is there any fan settings or... anything I can do to lower the temps? The vents are clean as it's a pretty new laptop and using a laptop stand is a last resort. Anything on the software end I could do like making the fans run more or something?

    Thanks!

Hmm, that doesn't seem too bad. Once your idling at 65C to 75C you should start worrying. Plenty of people here have had laptops that idle higher than that.

That's probably just the temperature that it's designed to operate at.

Anyway, it's a fairly small laptop, so don't be too worried if it gets that hot (55C - 62C).

Well, the Intel chips run cool... I mean it should be idling at 40C.. max.

This can't be normal... the touchpad gets really really hot.

If you really think it's bad, then you could get it checked out.

Remember, a lot of laptops like Asus G series generally idle 55C, and they have massive cases and fans. Yours is only a small laptop, so it makes sense that it would be hotter.

I think the touchpad running warm/hot is normal? I maintain the vents in my laptop normally so there's no clogs and there just doesn't seem to be anything I can do about the touchpad part :p Mine's a A305 fwiw.
