After installing uTorrent on my friends Toshiba Satellite Running Windows Vista Home Basic (32bit), everything seemed to try and run through uTorrent. No matter what the program was or what the file extension (.txt, .exe, .mp3 etc) I kept receiving the same Error Message:
"Unable to Load (file/program name): Invalid torrent file!  .
after Which i had to completely reinstall the intire operating system      .

Any ideas on how this happened would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

uTorrent must have taken all the file associations on the computer. Big problem, yes, but you didn't need to reinstall the entire OS to fix it.

What happened, somehow, was that uTorrent decided to alter the part of the registry that ties file types to specific applications. So that all file extensions 'belonged' to uTorrent. You could have changed them back using the Registry Editor.

Next time, I suggest you make a complete backup of the registry before you install. So if something FUBAR's you can fix it by restoring the registry.
