    Hi,

I have a Portege A200 laptop and I am trying to install a new copy of XP on it.

    I have tried 2 methods:
    1. boot directly from the win xp cd thru the built in cd rom drive.
    2. copy the whole installation files onto the hard disk and execute the setup program from there.

but no matter which method, when the setup program reaches the blue screen, "Press ENTER to install a fresh copy.....", the setup program will quit.

Seems like Toshiba is bent on forcing me to use their recovery disc. Is there anyway that I can install my own copy of Win XP?

    Please advise.

    Cheers,
    Henry

Maybe the setup is unable to detect a hard drive because you set up the hard drive config as AHCI. Please go to your BIOS and change this option to SATA emulation. (this is something u can try but i donno if it works because ur symptom is not typical hdd non detection)

    1. You never install Windows...from within Windows.
    2. Vista anytime update is rubbish too and leaves so much trash.
    3. You need to slipstream your installation kit.
    4. Use the compatible trick mentioned above but you will loose HDD performance.

The performance lost by moving into SATA emulation from AHCI is too negligible.

    Hi there,

    to reply your answer

    1. this was done out of desperation, sometimes Toshiba cd-rom quits in the middle of installation process.
    2. the current OS installed is Win XP
    3. slipstream my installation kit with? I do not know what's the missing drivers in the first place

    :(
