I'm running the 32 bit Vista on my R600, and would like to upgrade to 64 bit Windows 7, but am afraid to do so. Has has anyone else tried updating their Vista R600 to 64 bit Windows 7 yet?

I don't have an R600, but I have dualbooted on my A300. There is really no need to worry these days as Windows 7 has been out for some few months now, and Toshiba has more or less pretty good driver support for it.

Thanks Shadow. So how did you do this? Install Windows 7 from scratch, then go searching at toshiba.com for whatever wasn't working right? That's the bit that scares me. :D

Well since I have dual hard drives in mine, I just did a complete clean install on my second unused drive, with Vista still on the first. I haven't installed all the utilities on my Windows 7 drive, because I don't need them, but these should be available from the Toshiba website should you need them. If you do an upgrade, which means that you are just going over the top of Vista, that means that all your Documents and other files should still be available, whether it be in the folder Windows.old, or whether it is just like Vista. Depending on your GPU model, ATI should have drivers for this, so when you install, whether it be through clean install or upgrade, just go to ATI's website and download the drivers.

Since you are upgrading from 32 bit to 64 bit, you will need to do a clean install. You will need to backup your important data and files, and during the installation, select the "Custom Install" option, or just boot into the disc.

Thanks again, Shadow. Well, do I ever feel dumb - I went looking for the various apps on the Toshiba web site, and found that they have a whole section devoted to upgrading to Windows 7.

(My only defence is that the Canadian Toshiba web site does not link there, but still...)

Don't feel stupid at all. That's why these forums exist. Just to help those people who need it.

Anyway, good luck with it all, I hope it goes well. :)
