I got my X205-9349 on Sept. 13 and I already upgraded the cpu to the T7300 and I am very happy with it so far, can play Bioshock, FEAR at good frame rates.

Well, Last week I removed the T7300 and installed the T7700 cpu now I am really happy with my 9349 I average about 85fps in FEAR with all settings maxed @ 1280x800, even Bioshock runs silky smooth all the time with all settings maxed.

Yeap, I am the one that did this twice, I can say if you have experience and are good with small tools it's easy but takes a bit of time to do, but if you have never done anything like this I don't recommend you try it. Anyway the cpu is located on the left side of the laptop just behind the hard drive cage I call it or just to the left of the memory and it actually sites right next to the memory, what makes it tricky is that you have to pull out the motherboard with the heat sinks attached.

zfactor - you have to remove all the screws from the bottom cover, there are a couple hidden in the hdd cavities and one underneath the dvd drive too, then remove the thin plastic cover just above the keyboard to reveal 4 screws, remove the keyboard and there are a few more screws to remove there along with several connectors, I would mark where they all went so you have no problems putting them back in the right place, once you remove all the screws and connectors and the lcd assembly the top cover will come off easily, the motherboard has about 4 or 5 connectors and about 3 screws once you remove them all you just wiggle the board gently till it comes out, when reassmbling it just reverse the process and be very gentle and careful, that you reconnect everithing correctly and that you put back the correct screws in the right spot and you should be ok. Good Luck. :D

wow seems like a whole lot of work to replace the cpu.. is there a repair manual anywhere to look at to see if there is a easier way? i cant imagine they would make it that hard to do well doesnt sound hard just sounds like a pain in the neck

Yeah - it is a pain to do and I could not find a manual anywhere, I like HP cause you can download the service manual right off their web site, but I had no such luck with toshiba, I just jumped in used my 20 years of experience to get it done in about 1 hour or so.

zfactor - sorry to say there are no shortcuts to taking the X205 apart, you have to take off all the srews and connectors and there is no way around this at all.

Well after you take off all the screws and the right connector it comes apart very easy, but you have to be very gentle and very very careful not to break anything you are dealing with mostly plastic parts.

arghhhhh i dont know which way to go. at the price best buy wants imo its not a great bargin... if i can buy it and drop my stuff all in it and sell off the stock cpu, hdd's and ram i could get some $$ back and then it would be a great deal..
