This question is applicable to any of the Intel Dual Core cpu laptops.
But, I am trying to compare a Satellite Pro U300-TP2 laptop and an Acer Aspire 4720. I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the cpu on the U300 or any laptop, really. Is it worth it? Is it really expensive? I thought the Satellite Pro U300 and the specs other than the cpu was ideal. How is watching movies on a 13.3" Widescreen LCD? The screen is the same size as most MacBooks and I really want the portability. When I'm at home, I can use the desktop and the bigger 22" LCD monitor but when I'm out, I want something light but still want the option of surfing and watching the odd movie.
The U300-TP2 is a tad expensive but I'd want an option of upgrading the cpu.
Comments? Recommendations? I like the look of the Toshiba over the Acer (models I'm comparing) but the Acer Aspire 4720 is a bit cheaper and more powerful? The Toshiba looks more professional and closer to the MacBook in appearance. My Mom owned an older Satellite Pro series and it was a nice notebook. It worked well and I was satisfied with it. Are the new ones as good?

I watch plenty of movies and never had a complaint. It's not like you're sitting 5 feet away when you use your notebook (unless you have mutant arms). The screen real estate size is plenty for movies, multi-tasking, and surfing.
In my experience owning the U305, I have to say it's one excellent notebook. -
It's not hard to upgrade if you do it yourself as mentioned. I would focus on the better of the GPU options since they are easily upgradable but not as available to find used right away. A year later, maybe but still hit or miss. Wi-Fi cards and CPU are all over the place and the upgrade prices arereasonable.
Today one can go from netry T54xx to T7700 for bouts $300.00 on eBay. And you can do it in a month or 3 months and the prices usually get better as time goes by.
I personally would try to stay with the Toshiba for long life and reliability.
