my dad's notebook is in serious need of help. one thing im going to do is ram, and i think im going to wipe it and start over. what ram should i go with? hes currently running xp home (im going to put pro on it prolly) he doesnt do anything really intensive graphic wise, but he does have like 6 fscking HUGE excel documents he works with all the time. hes only got what ever it came with, and when hes got all 6 documents open, even when idle, the harddrive is going once a second, im assuming writing to the page file.
thanks

I'd go with Crucial or Kngston.

yeah those are the best brands, but i dont know specifically. like the type i mean.
im looking through the selector thing on your link, i should find ith that way. thanks -
Yeah, crucial or kingston are often recommended, you could try other brands or generic makes, but have a good return policy in case they dont work.
Coming to the specific type of RAM, you can run CPU-Z . It will list the specs on your laptop. Also Toshia list the memory as SDRAM PC1600 on their detailed spec page for your laptop...

i followed crucial's site through, and the ram they say fits is sdram pc2100, the spec sheet says pc1600. hrmm

If you are pairing it up with the module currently present in the laptop, then get the same speed & type as the current module, as if you get a higher speed module it will underclock & work at the same speed as the slower module.
Run CPU-Z, it should list the spec of the memory currently in the laptop. -
i went through crucial's recommendation system, and also ran their little utilities and talked to one of their "memory experts"
it seems that the laptop already has pc2100 in there, the pdf is out of date i guess. i ordered another 256 of pc2100, bringing the total to 512, the max the laptop can support lol. mine can support 8 times that much
what ram for satellite 1115-S103?
