I had a 6 month Trial of Server 2008(which expires June 30) which I had little problem enabling the wireless to connect to my wireless router. Now I've got Server 2008 Standard and for the past couple of days I'm unable to get the wireless going,I've enabled the wireless lan service and still have trouble with getting the network controller driver(which is the wireless card I assume) that is the only flag I have in device manager. Makes me wish my Enterprise trial wasn't going to expire. If anyone knows what I need to do to get this going I'd appreciate it,as I do not want to go back to XP home. Must be some difference in Standard and Enterprise to get the wireless going.

What is the full model number located on the bottom of the laptop?

M15-S405 I need to know what exactly is the wireless card that is installed and the correct driver to install as well. It's crazy I have had no problems with Server 2008 Enterprise but having a time getting it to work in the Standard edition. I just want to have my wireless internet and lan going again. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it(I have a linksys wireless G 2.4 ghz router)

Here's the information I could find about your laptop. It may or may not prove useful. Your laptop is pretty old and not designed for Server 2008 so finding the driver is difficult. I highly suggest that you simply upgrade the wireless card as it is only wireless b. Wireless G will allow you to better utilize your router. Also, since it is so old it probably only supports WEP, which is an easily crackable outdated security standard. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but the links below should help you on your search.

Well since I got it to work for 6 months with 2008 Server Enterprise, why can't it work with 2008 Server standard then? I'm now suspecting that the standard version is lacking features. I can now see as a test the router using wep and it will connect but freeze when it's doing the connecting,so it's a 2008 Standard driver issue possibly.

Possibly. I wouldn't put it past Microsoft to do that. Am I correct in thinking that laptop has a PCMCIA port? If so, a new wireless card will give you better performance (and security as I mentioned before). You can get the cards pretty cheap. $20 - $30.

Well I just ordered a cheap 54G wireless card($18) hopefully this will work and give me what I want even though I know somehow I could get it working with the card installed now. I think I will have to disable the onboard in bios or I don't need to? Will this show up as a extra wireless card? I'm going to get a new laptop in the future enventually,as I need more memory and faster speeds for the things I need to run.

Disabling the built in wireless card in the Device Manager should be sufficient.
