so although i got my 8700gt to 725/900 it's temperature wont even rise more than 65degrees, i reckon its a pretty low temp if not correct me. if i go like 740/920 it crashes after a couple minutes of playin.
the funny thing about it is that it doesn't have to reach even 60 degrees it will crash anyways. (i was recordin the temp whilst playn fifa 07 and the temp was about 58degrees at 740/920) so whats the prob?

Mine does the same thing. My sli1 8600gt's core and mem will o/c higher, but not the shader clocks. The 8700 shader clocks alot higher.

It's because the card wasnt designed with those clocks in mind. For example, you can overclock a 2.2ghz Pentium 4 up to 4.2 ghz and keep its temperatures cool and everything yet the OS wont be stable because the processor wasnt designed for those speeds.

My 8700GT runs at 776/938 for all things without crashes, and runs most games (except crysis) at 800/1000...

The limitation is not just heat.

Not all chips (even within the same type and same wafer) are created equal.
Note that every single one of the chips has imperfections in them and some of them cause the signals the chips are using to get confused.

This happens at differing timings for different chips.

I got lucky and mine runs faster (both the chip and the RAM) you got a bit less lucky and some people get insanely lucky.

    I run mine at 740/1675/950 - 5995 3dmarks06 in 1280x1024 with 169.04 driver

Cant get ROP clock higher, it causes artifacts even if rarely.
