i recieved my sager 5791 and so far am not at all impressed by the screen. ihave a freind that will buy it from me but i am thinking about trying a x205 instead.. how are thescreens fo everyone?? thanks
-
I'm sure it's somewhere on the 500 threads you start/respond to, but what exactly was your problem again?
Sorry if this seems weird, but I've been following your Dell-Sager-perfect laptop search pretty closely and you seem to have pretty high standards. It's unfortunate nothing's working out quite right. Hopefully you can find something that you like before they release Triple Core laptops. -
What I call "post-traumatic stress disorder". The Dell had a bad screen, and thus the OP wants to make sure the screen is flawless on his new machine.
-
-
guese you didn't follow as much as you thought XD. He tried going but they didn't have it at the local store.
OP: I'm actually sending my t61p back and I'm getting the x205. From what I've seen from the floor models, the screen didn't seem as bright as my t61p. Other than that though there was barely any light leakage. Probably be about 2 weeks before Lenovo returns my credit and then I should have it. -
Lol, whoops, guess I forgot that. But hey, school's started, I gotta keep useless school stuff stored rather than zfact's long-winded tale of agony covering multiple threads...
Anyway, I too though the X205 was a great deal since z was planning on throwing a better proc, RAM, and HDD in I believe. Been thinking about returning my 2090 and going that route, but woooow, what a beautiful matte screen...
Good luck to both of you, especially zfactor. I get the feeling this saga isn't ending anytime soon... -

I really like the screen on my X205 I saw an XPS on display at one of the local malls that were Dell has a booth and I like my X205 screen much better than the dell screen for sure!!!.

The screen for the X205 does not blow. It's a great screen. I have a XPS 1710 and a X205 and the screens on both are great. Vibrant and great for looking at HD movies on. The only thing that can beat my X205 from what I've seen is a Apple Macbook.

the 5791 screen is def not as bright as i would like even set to max its no where near as bright as my other systems i have here. the bottom corners have some darkening to them, and there is a touch of grain that is imo livable so thats not to bad but its there. whites have a touch of yellow to them that even after using my calibration software i can not eliminate. i chose the wuxga due to the wait on the wsxga screen and im not sure on my end that was smart, i think the wuxga is way to small after playing with it for a couple days. i do a lot of reading and typing on this system and its def hard to read a lot of web page content. i know i can increase font size yes but that makes the letters fuzzy and not very clear. i just would have though spending near 800$ more than what i originally paid for the dell this screen would have been wayyy better. while it most def is better its not great. my wifes system with its sharp branded screen im typing on right now blows it away.
overall i love the 5791. and i spoke with justin today and was told i can do one exchange. i have to decide if i want to do that and if so which screen i want. what sucks is you loose your original shiping cost, you pay to ship it back, and pay another 33$ to get the new one shipped to you so a total loss of 77$ to me.. that kinda sucks..
and my best buy still does not have the toshiba on display and the rice went back up on that system to 1499.00 so the amazon deal blows it away now.
im most likely goiing to stay withe the 5791 but i will DEFINATLY AT least do a exchange to see my luck at another wuxga or wait another 3 weeks for the matte screen, just cant decide. i wish they had a wsxga glossy i would go that way in a second. -
' whats the delay on the wsxga screen? Thats the one I would be getting

Can someone post comprison pics of the X205 screen next to another laptop screen/s showing full frontal and angles ?
Does anyone have the spec data on those screens ?
IMO whenever a brand "hides" the lcd panel specs it is usually a sub par screen . -
That's right . It is IMO too !
I don't understand why a such question about Toshina's display quality is asked in a Toshina forum .
Do you wanna hear an obiective oppinion ? Ask about Toshiba displays in Sony , Acer , Apple , HP forums .
But the best ideea is to go to a super computer mall ( Compusa , Best Buy , Fry;s erc ) and to compare its quality by yourself . -
I warned you that the grainy screen problem goes across many manufacturers. But don't settle for 2nd tier quality when you paid top money! Get an x205 next.

Trust me, if you are picky about brightness, grainyness, viewing angles, etc... you would NOT be happy with the X205-S9359. The display on this model does BLOW. I've heard the lower res display on the S9349 looks better, but I haven't seen one in person. I didn't like my display from day one, but decided I could live with it. Funny thing is though, a friend had a problem with a $500 HP, so he brought it over and stuck it next to mine so I could take a look at it and his el cheapo laptop display was alot brighter, and had better viewing angles than mine. He noticed also. I have no idea why Toshiba would put 8700 graphics with an hd dvd drive($2500 retail price), and then give you such a lousy display. I would have paid extra for a better display if I had the choice. I like everything else about this laptop, so I am keeping it though. Go to Best Buy, Comp-USA, Circuit City or whatever and see for yourself.

I don't think you have to be too concerned about the brightness; I was blinded by the light, so to speak, when I first turned it on. For the first few days I had to turn the brightness down about half-way just so I could look at it without my eyes hurting. (I've now adjusted and leave it on full) That said, I haven't compared it side-by-side with other models. YMMV.
It is slightly dim in the bottom corners, but IMO seeing as how my taskbar is down there, I really don't notice it. It wasn't a make-or-break thing.
The whites are white. My dad is very knowledgeable about that (he sent back many big screen TVs over it) and was quite impressed with the brightness and the white on this screen.
The viewing angle is also far superior to my old computer but, again, I don't know how it compares to other things on the market.

I just saw the X205-SLi1 and SLi3 on display at Nebraska Furniture Mart, and I thought the screen was pretty good. Much, much better than some of the other models next to it. On a side note, I did finally buy and X205-SLi3, but I won't be able to benchmark it for at least another 2 months. (I bought and paid for it and it is in my house, but my parents say that I need to make more friends at college and not just play games on it all day.

I think visual comparison is the best judge in this situation.
I am currently looking at my 1440x900 x205, an HP DV9000 with a 1440x900, and a Vostro 1700 with a 1440x900.... all in the Tech Room here and being prepped for company usage.
The x205's screen is the brightest and highest quality, with the DV9000 ever so slightly behind (some very minor lower screen light leakage/discoloration) and the Vostro a good couple steps behind (dimmer, grainy, leakage)
ALL of them have viewing angle issues... realistically the x205 is tied for best with the DV9000 in comparison and the Vostro lags behind (by a small margin) IMHO.
I have no way of telling how the 1680x1050 screens are turing out and do not have a recent clevo to check on the bench right this minute...
However, in comparison to the HP and the Dell, this screen (1440x900) is just looking better and better... -
The only display buyable in Sweden is 1680x1050 under the model name X200. Any opinions about the 1680x1050 display, specifically for the X200 (X200-20T and X200-21C)? Are the displays the same in X200 and X205 or do they differ in manufacturer or timewise? It seems the X205 reviewers like the 1440x900 better than 1680x1050 surprisingly?

Hey guys, i went to a local shop today and i saw the X205 with the 1680x1050 display. I was shocked about it, the display was grainy and it looked like it wasn't as bright as mine screen is (1440x900)
When i saw that screen i was actually happy about me having the 1440x900 one.
Can anybody else confirm that his 1680x1050 screen is grainy? -
I have the 1680x1050, the screen has very good horizontal viewing (about 160 degree) and ok vertical viewing angles.
Overall it looks quite good... not sure about "grainy" - how do you know it's grainy? -
The screen is good, angles as good as were on P100 series, max brightness and contrast ratio is bit higher.
Hovewer this screen has almost a flat (1.0) gamma, and no hardware to bring it to proper 2.2 from the box. So in NVidia Control panel gamma adjustment must be set to at least 15-20% for proper gamma and contrast - without that display will appear too "washed out". -
Not to be bias, but everyone that has seen my screen has said "wow". I have the 1440x900. Love it!

I'm not a fan of my SLi1's low contrast, too bright, waste of HDR in Oblivion screen. I actually prefer normal lighting because of it and I still end up setting the Bightness slider all the way down. It does often look "washed out" as DirtyT said.

I think that my screen is fine except that the refresh rate is 59 Hz
. The panel is a 1680*1050 Samsung.

Also, its been pretty well covered that Toshiba had at least two vendors for screens. The one kind was amazing and I seemed to have gotten lucky. The other was abysmal in comparison. Also the 1440x900 screen seemed to fare better than the 1680x1050 one.
After 10 months, there have been VERY few screens better than the one on my x205. Note it does have deflection issues, but other than that I am still impressed. Note I see more laptop screens than the average joe. -
My X205-S9800 1440x900 screen is incredibly bright (which lowers apparent contrast). I had to turn the brightness way down. I consider this a good thing. You can always turn it down, but you can't fix a screen that's too dim at max.
Overall, I think it's a pretty good screen. It is certainly sharp and bright, but it seems to have a hard time showing good blacks in some games (as most LCD's do). I have an HP that has better blacks. Still, it is an above average screen in my opinion.
Note my comments pertain mostly to gaming displays, the desktop and most other stuff looks great. I've only had mine for a month or so, so not really enough variety yet to do a good comparison, but as I said, overall I'd give it good marks.
I do think the vertical viewing angle is a bit narrow, but I also have that complaint about my other laptops. Seems to be a common thing w/LCD's.
For gaming, I still think CRT's are the best display. But LCD's are much more convenient. -
Here are the pics I promised. These are the laptops in my house. From left to right, we have...
1. Wifes 15.4" HP dv6000 ($600)
2. My X205-sli1 ($2000)
3. First son's 17" Everex xt5000t ($800)
4. Second son's xt5000t ($800)
5. Third son's 17" HP dv9000 ($1400)
This is a low view that shows how narrow the field of view is. The dv9000 looks the best. It has the ultrabright dual light screen. The x205 is the clearly the worst at every angle. All screens are set at factoy default settings.
from the left
from the right
Now the straight on views...same results.
X205
XT5000T #1
XT5000T #2
DV9000
btw, the dv9000 has a bunch of little finger prints on it, if you're wondering why it looks like that.
And this is a view from above...the only angle the x205 looks good at. Notice how they all pretty much look the same at this angle.
x205 owners how do you like your screen??
