hi, i might appear to be pretty stupid here but i am a bit confused on drivers. i have had a few problem in some games of crashing on certain maps... so someoen suggested that i update my drivers --- i tried to do this thru device manager and it says im already updated.. but then they told me to go to www.laptop2go.com and get the latest drivers, why would i need to do this if my computer didn't find any new drivers? does anyone else do this? i have an 8700m GT in this x205 and im wondering what you all use for a driver?
((this is what he gave me for a link to update my driver - although it does not have 8700m GT in the list for some reason.. http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15369 ))
thank you for any help mates!
-
You go there and download the latest driver which I believe is 167.26 and you also download the modified inf driver and use the modified inf file (copy the inf file to the folder were you extracted the drivers to and say yes when it asks you if you want it to over write the original file) this will add the 8700M GT to the video card list so you can install the driver on your 9349 laptop
-
can someone give me a direct link to the best driver to use with the 8700m GT ? http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15369 <<-- is that it?
also - is there any risk in using these forceware drivers since they arent official or whatever when u go into device manager and try to update? i had a VERY BAD experience last time i tried using a driver from a different site ;\ anyone have any comments? -
ay wdup kraz30g. i was about to post the exact same question when i saw this thread. im the one with problems with BF2
-
those are very good drivers, i am using them and also trying the newer 167.26, but the 163.75's worked with every game I tried without any problems... only catch is you have to follow the directions and replace the .inf file that comes with the drivers with the modified .inf file that you download from your link... basicly, do what jesse6749 said and you'll be ok... there are also directions on the link you've got
-
and as to why your computer didn't find them, these have not been through the entire certification process with windows, so your update drivers through device manager won't find them yet.... but, they're still good drivers
-
I am using these drivers on my 9349 laptop and all my games run just fine, the certification is just microsoft saying the drivers are good after they test them, for me the whql means nothing if the drivers work for me without causing any problems and these drivers have not caused any problems for me and they work just fine.
-
so which one exactly are yall talking about..im looking at laptopvideo2go and these are the ones listed. which one is best...? im confused cuz the site says the "latest driver" for vista 32 bit is 163.67. but it goes all the way up to 165.01..?
-
Try the latest 167.26 from laptopvideo2go.
It will mostly give a boost of 1000 pts or more for 3dmarks06 over the 163 drivers...
some have reported about around 5500 marks in default stock clock for X205-S9349. -
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php?t15587.html
-
yep, that's the link to the ones i'm currently using, thanks jesse for the link
Just make sure you use the modified inf file also listed on that page... and there's a guide or FAQ on there to if ya need helping getting it all installed.
Good luck! Only downside so far I've got is you won't be able to use the Toshiba HDDVD player with anything except the stock Toshiba drivers, if that matters to ya -

You need to download the modified inf file and replace the original inf file with the modified file that you downloaded.

can anyone CONFIRM that i will not screw someting up if i install the new driver from laptopvideo2go with my x205-s9349 w/ 8700m GT (just worried cuz its not listed on the compatibility list) ??
163.75 or 167.26 -- which is "safer"? -
-
is there a specific reason why i can't run 3dmrk06? i have tried downloading it a bunch of times but i always get an error - so i have no idea what my score is....
i would love to run it on my drivers now and see what the new drivers do... -
-
im still so cautious about installing a forceware driver that im reluctant to even do it because im afraid it'll cause new problems in my games and stuff ;\ can someone give me some motivation on using the new drivers? if something does go wrong can i go back to my stock drivers? are there any risks involved in this?
-
Then if you are so paranoid and afraid to upgrade!!!, just keep the Toshiba supplied drivers they work fine and will not create any problems for you and there is nothing wrong with that and we are all free and entitled to make our own choices and we cannot force you to use a certain driver if you don't want to uset it in the first place.
-
A few times after running 3dmarks, when it return to the desktop screen, one-fifth of the screen is black...like the whole screen being squeezed into 4-fifth....
Once when installing ...it gives the window vista Blue Screen core dump,
I had to reboot a few times into safe mode to fix the problems by reverting to stock drivers....
but that also takes a few reboot/safe-mode cycle, cos it blue screen again on next reboot...
Ultimately, it still got fixed.
Hopefully that is just software bug, that did not kill any hardware or rom/flash of sort....
Other times it seems to run quite well....

okay i finally made myself update to the newest drivers from laptopvideo2go and i used the 167.26 driver .... now when i play certain games that ran nicely before , the colors are all weird and things are textures are flashing ... i knew updating my drivers would do something bad
i guess its just my luck
i can go back to my stock driver if i want from toshiba's website correct? ::crosses fingers:: -
-
well the game im playing right now is Team Fortress 2 (part of the orange box) and i dont even think its playable. colors are off, textures flash, and the game will freeze up in 15 second intervals
-
Perhaps try an older driver? I know 163.44 has good reviews and very stable.
-
went back to stock drivers from toshiba ;\

hey kraz, was curious from your post, and so i loaded up TF2.... actually bought it last week, but, hadn't tried it yet... but, that's a fun game! So, thanks for gettin me to fire it up! But, also, the reason i tried it was to see if it would crash on my toshiba... so far, I only noticed one problem, the revolving type door that looks like a roll up door flashes different greys a bit, but that was the only problem I had... game ran great though, totally smooth at 1440x900 with the settings at high... and, the blue team I was on happened to win to boot, ha So, good luck getting it to work, but so far so good with these for me, except for said door texture that flashed a bit.

hmmm, Guys and Girls I really dont understand why some body wants latest drivers. A small increase in performance doesnt really matter while playing games.
x205 s9349 drivers?
