Anyways, after a couple of weeks of indecision between this notebook and Asus's C90S, I went with the SLI1.
Funny thing happened when I ran 3dmark06 for the first time. I didn't realize SLI wasn't enabled from the factory and got a little disappointed when I saw a score around 4100 (I forgot the initial number). Turned SLI on, ran the app again and viola!

This is with bloatware and all.

Ah, very interested in what ya find out playin with it more, I'm really wanting to get the SLi1, but still haven't seen how real world use will compare to the 8700m GT.... playing with a X205-S7483 right now, but want what you got so let me know! It's seems like the one, a good compromise between the $1500 or so 8700's and the $2500 SLi3.... good luck and have fun.... and curious, where'd ya buy it? OfficeDepot.com says they'll ship me one next day for $1949.00, so tempted!
-
Ordered from pcmall.com. They charge a sales tax (is that legal?), so with that and shipping it came to about 1950.00. :/
This is my first laptop, so I can't really comment or make judgements with any sort of credibility. I'm happy with it so far though.

Hopefully you can get some benchmarks out like bioshock demo if you dont have the full version at 1440x900 all settings on high with global lighting on and off run fraps in the background to watch the frame rate fraps.com
World in conflict same resolution all settings high with dx10 on and off theres a built in benchmark under video options
Not sure if your a gamer or not but these numbers im sure are what people are waiting for to get an idea on performance also making sure SLI is enable for said games.
if you have the spare time or just feel like flexing the muscles of your new machine that would be great and im sure much appreciated from the community
Thanks in advance -
man that sure is strong, what a monster, I wish I was willing to get a 17" I'd love that performance! Such a good price too!
-
Curious; what is the battery life of the SLI machine compared to the phenom that is the original X205? xD
-
I'm not as into games as I used to be, but I'll run both of those demos and get the results posted ASAP.
-
Can you take some pics of your computer please?
-
I just saw one of these sli1 models at Fry's Electronics and the only difference from my 9349 is the cpu they use the T7250 and sli 8600 gpu's other than that the specs are exactly the same, I assume they are using a single pci-e connector for the sli gpu so hopefully someone can put some 8700M GT sli cards for sale on the web so we can upgrade to that if we fell like it, then mine would be a sli4 since I upgraded the cpu to the T7700.

OK, ordered a X205-SLi1 today, running outta time to play with the BestBuy x205-s7483, and since I'll be using it for the next 2-3 years, want to make sure I keep the one I prefer.... so, it should be here by the weekend if they ship it when they're suppose to... can't find a definate answer as to how the 8700 will compare to the dual 8600's, so, just gonna set up each with fresh vista installs and run the same stuff side by side... should be kinda nice ha.... Been down the Sager and Dell routes before, and was just really impressed with the X205's, so gonna keep one of em... Very curious as to driver and game support or issues with the SLI setup, never tried before, so wanna see if it's worth it.... depending on who i ask I get it's no problem at all to it's the worst idea ever... we'll see
-
I'm in the same boat (although if you look at my current and only rig, unless you count an old, old iMac, I'd be happy with even modest bugs) will you kindly post your findings? Thanks!
-
ok, should be showing up in the morning, got the word from Toshiba... I'll let ya know dxcv, I'm thinking the SLi setup will be the way to go, but, alot of possible issues so who knows.... it's all in the name of fun though! I'll keep ya updated... is a nice laptop for the money though, reguardless which one
-
Hopefully you can get some benchmarks up of some various games so we can see what this thing can do . 2 people on this forum so far have one it seems but noones posted more then a 3dmark score which isnt really indicative of what this thing is capable of.
And Congrats on your new purchase. -
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it. I'm thinking the SLI is the way to go also.
-
ha, so sittin here at the kitchen table with both of em running side by side... got the sli1 today, tryin to get it setup but there's just SO much junk that Toshiba puts on these! The S7483 is runnin a fresh vista install, guess I'll have to end up doin that to the SLi1... did get world in conflict installed though, so might try some stuff with it as is and just the toshiba junk disabled, then if it looks promising do the fresh vista install for true apples to apples... just on the surface, weight seems close enough to not tell any difference, heat wise there is a bit more coming out of the sli, BUT it's also got a faster cpu, T5450 vs. T7250, so that might be the difference... ok, back later with more...
One quick question, ran 3dmark06 on the S7483, and can only get 1280x854 resolution with the free copy... any way to change that? at that resolution it ran 4692 -
If you're asking if there is a way for you to change the test resolution from 1280x854 to the default test resolution 1280x1024 then yes there is a way. You would need to connect an external monitor that supports 1280x1024.
If you're asking if there is a way to hack/crack the free version of 3dmark06 to run at a different resolution then the answer is probably, but I wouldn't be able to tell you how to do that.
-
Thanks for the info so far. Quick question: How much of a heat difference is there? Just enough to notice, or substantially more? -
Does anyone read about a detailed review on this item?
Can't find any out there, want to see this two cards working on real time gaming... -
Ah, ok, i can't change anything in the free version, and was just curious so i could compare my numbers to the 1280x1024 results others post... work on that later, currently bout to reformat and start a clean vista install... be back later.. hopefully
-
ok, got a clean vista install and both tweaked about equally, and ran a quick Bioshock demo test before I'm headin to bed... using fraps, 1440x900 res, all settings except global lighting on, and the sli1 is averaging about 5 frames faster in the opening and, and never going slower than the S7483, sometimes more, but frames are staying right around 20ish for the S7483, and 24-25, sometimes over 30 for the SLi1.... but, it does also have a faster cpu, so, don't know what that amounts to... anyway, I'm outta here, gotta get up in a few hours for work, but I'll play with it a bunch more over the weekend, world in conflict is installed but haven't directly compared em.... 1440x900 with very high settings and everything on did bring em both to their knees though, ha... medium to high without any fine tuning does run good though on both, just not sure the difference... yet
Heat, air coming out is a bit warmer for sure, but the actual chassis and keyboard really don't feel any warmer, so they really did do a good job with airflow on these/ -
Thank you for the quick answer. Seems the Sli1, is behaving pretty well, maybe is not the best performance, but has a good price-performance relation.
You are right maybe is the cpu what is giving the diference, probably when we have a detailed review this would be easier to discuse...
x205 sli1 arrived today...
