was anyone able to download the vista SP1 for their x205 sli1? I can't seem to get it from windows update. I have the 174.31 drivers from laptopvideo2go, nhancer, ntune, upgraded bios to 2.3 and the update to the hddvd player. Are any of these conflicting drivers? I really was anxiously waiting for sp1 and now that it's released I can't update? And will I ever be able to update?

doesnt seem to show up for me either. i havent had a chance to work on it yet. some things you could try: go to the microsoft support page for SP1 and there are specific driver files that need to be updated before it will show up in wu. so you need to search for each file and if you have it on your pc then you need to update that driver. If you cant get that to work then you can always download the standalone installer from microsoft the only difference between the two is file size, the wu is 65MB and the standalone is 430 some odd MB.

abehana I was thinking about doing the standalone but was nervous something might go wrong, so my understanding is microsoft is working on the defective driver problem and everyone will get it sometime in April through windows update, so even if we don't see if now, we don't have to do anything and microsoft is taking care of it, right?

I got it as a stand alone download and I did not see any game performance improvements at all. :(

oh, but seeing you already tricked out your sli1 to the max you probably got to the point of no beneficial returns. what drivers are you using for the nvidia cards? and how do they compare to the 174.31? also do you think the drivers from laptopvideo2go are incompatible or "defective" drivers with the SP1?

I am actually using the 174.31 drivers from laptopvideo2go since they are whql certified so I can use them and also use PowerDVD Ultra to play my HD DVD movies, they only catch is you have to install the drivers manually through the device manager by telling it you have the disk and choosing the card from the list on the inf file cause for some reason running the setup program on the drivers fails to find the card even though it is on the original inf file, so you do not even need the modified inf file at all. These driver are working just fine with SP1 and all my games too. :D :p

so you're saying the 174.31 drivers doesn't need the modified inf, and all you have to do is use the have disk method? I'm new to this so forgive me if I don't really understand.

Yes, and when you tell it you have a disk point it to the location were you extracted the driver files it will then give you a list of video cards and simply scroll down till you see the 8600M GT card, select it and tell it that you do want to install this card and let it finish and reboot the laptop then you are ready to play.

Yes I've done that. already downloaded 174.31 and installed the drivers although with the modified inf. how does that affect my system? Should I uninstall and install again without using the modified inf?

jacob808 - The only difference is that with the modofied inf file you loose the whql certification and some software like HD DVD player may not work properly with HD movies and content.

jesse6749 - how significant is the whql certification, and should i reinstall the drivers cause I still have the folder on my desktop with the 174.31 download and the modified inf both in the same folder. Should I delete the modified inf from the folder, which leaves just the 174.31 drivers and then proceed with the have disk method? will that work and install the drivers? and can I just go to device manager>display adapters> pick the nvidia card and just update driver without uninstalling? Forgive me I'm new to computers.

I f you want to watch HD movies on the laptop then I would say re install the drivers with the original inf file, but if that is not something you do on the laptop then don't bother reinstalling the drivers.
