    Hey

Ok, so i decided to install xp on my X205-s9349 today and xp installed fine but i think it killed my vista, i made a seperate partition for xp but i seems like that wasn't enough.

the laptop automatically boots up in xp and if i go into the choose how to boot screen, it only shows xp and not vista.

    what do i do?

    thanks in advanced

    Edit: ok i searched google.com
now the problem is, i don't have a vista install disc
is there another way to repair windows ?

I think you still need that Vista install disc. If you call Tech Support, they might void your warranty. Find some way to get that disc, even if you have to order it from the manufacturer.

What happened was that XP overwrote Vista's Master Boot Record (MBR) and because XP is older than Vista, it doesn't know how to detect Vista and therefore it doesn't show up. What you need to do is restore Vista's bootloader which will then let you choose between XP and Vista.
Follow this link for how to do it linky
And as to the reason you can't boot the disc is that you likely don't have your computer set to boot off CD/DVD. To change this, press F8, F12 or delete (not sure which you need to press, it'll say near the bottom of the screen) your when your computer starts and it will bring you into the BIOS. Then just look through all the options until you find something like boot order, change it so that the CD/DVD option is first. Then put in your disc, save and exit the BIOS and run the DVD.

    EDIT:
They wouldn't void your warranty based on what software you use. What they would say however is that you don't get tech support for XP since it isn't the OS that came preinstalled.

You might be able to reinstall vista by using a regular vista install dvd and telling it to repair the installation in the first install screen, because to have dual boot you first need to have XP installed and then vista is installed afterwards as it uses the XP boot manager to boot in dual boot mode.

The disc is bootable, you just need to set the option in your BIOS to boot from CD/DVD before it boots from HDD. I noted this in my above post and how to change it.

the disc wasn't bootable, i had to get another disc, i fixed it anyways

for people who want to know, you have to boot up your vista disc and type in a few commands and you'll get vista and xp dual booting. Search google for the commands

    thanks for the help guys
