K, there are quite a few problems that I'm having with my x205-sli1.
1.) For some reason it's running slow. I mean really slow. For instance when I open up Internet Explorer it usually takes about 5-10 seconds for it to pop up which leads me to my second problem.
2.) Internet Explorer will quite frequently (mostly after I'm playing a game like CoH or WoW) stops responding and I will sometimes have to open up to three different browsers before I get one to work. Once it is open everything runs fine.
3.) Vista does not recognize some keystrokes. For instance when I was typing the above certain letters would not show up... these letters are random but it happens quite frequently.... like when I typed frequently I had to go back over it and add the r, u, e, and l... now I'm not the best typer but I do not mess up that much... and again when I typed that sentence I had to go back over it. It's almost like the laptop is trying to catch up with the other characters that I'm typing and then sometimes it is just fine.
4.) Did I mention it's slow as hell? In the beginning it wasn't this slow but now it's really really slow. Winamp takes forever to start up... same with IE, Firefox, games, Xfire, etc.
5.) I get BSODs (sometimes for no apparent reason at all). I think it might be tied into the harddrive(s). For instance a couple of days ago I got a bsod that said bad_pool_caller and a few weeks before that I got a bsod saying something like irql_not_less_or_equal error. Of course the irql one stopped when I updated the video card driver... and I've updated everything except for a couple of the Toshiba drivers... like I didn't download the new value package thing.
6.) I'm getting an error that says nvd***** stopped responding... which I looked up and found out that it has to do with the video card stopping and then responding again.
If someone can tell me what I can do about this then it'd be much appreciated. I just don't want to take it in again (I took it in a few months ago because the right fan was going out on it and they kept it for two almost three weeks just for the fan... I don't want to even think about how long they will keep it this time). The temperatures were all within the normal range so I don't think anything got fried. I also reinstalled Vista right before SP1 came out... so far I've reinstalled it twice since I got my laptop in January.
Edit: I ran AVG (nothing wrong), Spybot (nothing wrong), running hijackthis right now.

Time to clean install.
-
Okay, thanks. I was hoping not to have to reinstall but looks like that is what I am going to have to do. I just hope that it makes the problems go away so I don't have to send it in and wait 3-4 weeks or longer to get it back.

absolutely do a CLEAN install with a Microsoft disc, NOT the restore disc. It's still slower (Vista) than XP, but much faster than the Toshiba install.
All the drivers are on the restore disc, just borrow a copy of Vista from a friend, and use the activation numbers on the bottom of your machine. -
I don't know of anyone that has a copy of Vista...
-
you can download a copy (legally). look here.
-
Thanks Harp but the links that they are referring to don't work.
-
what about the recovery disk that came with the notebook?
-
I used that and everything seems to be back to normal... with the exception of a clicking noise coming from my harddrive.
-
recovery discs are full of bloatware...I saw significant performance increases by doing a Microsoft install (ie games are actually PLAYABLE).
-
Yeah... wish I could either find the Win XP drivers or someone that has a Vista disk... I don't feel like paying for Vista though.
Edit: I have Windows XP 64bit.
