So i got my x300 a few days ago and am quite happy with the idle/load templs at the moment. The only problem I see is that the keyboard gets a little bit hot, whereas the bottom of the laptop (which is meant to be scorching hot) is only slightly warm.

In my mind there is a problem with heat dispersion around the chassis, so I was thinking of using some cooling pads (like the ones for chipsets) to make contact between the metal case and the bottom lid, so heat is evenly transferred throughout the case (that was the case with my previous lappy). Has anyone done this or attempted another mod to improve cooling?

Also have you guys replaced the thermal grease? What is the stock brand that Toshiba uses?

Another user with x300 heat problems!! It has a terrible cooling method this laptop, They should of designed it with 2 fans in the first place.

On my X300 with 1x 9700m GTS my temps would reach the 100s at full load! I had to dissassemble the laptop and re-apply AC5 thermal paste, (Toshiba had applied too much and it was acting as an insulator!) Now it only reaches a top of 77C at stock GPU clocks

Hm your old temps wre really high, considering you have the 9700m.

Im not really having any heat problems, my x9100 is running at 65C on max load, and my 9800m gtx at around 90, its just that the keyboard gets a little hot and its uncomfortable to rest your hands on it whilst gaming.

Although you have a good point, i might have to change the paste anyway, who knows how they applied it.

Wow i must say i didnt expect a thermal pad to make such a difference, it has lowered my gpu temps significantly, currently as im writing this with loads of apps running my 9800m gtx is at 51C, whereas when I got it it was 65C !!!

I bought the CryoNZXT cooler and see absolutely no difference in temperatures be it any of the GPU's or the CPU. My GPU temps are 47C for 1 9800m gts and 50c for the second one. It has been said by others that the discrepency in temps is because the heat sink pipe connects the cards(the are both on the same board) so the heat of the first is transmitted to the second.

My keyboard does not get warm though--the only place that there is noticeable heat is near the centered display hinge above where heat is blown out the back of the notebook.

I'm surprised the NZXT Cryo yielded unfavorable results for you....
But adding a thermal pad and a nice amount of AS5 would definitely help.
Toshiba is still ridiculous for not placing 2 fans in the q701 and q705, etc.

Dude55, I have bought the cryo, and it has given me really good results in decreasing load temps. Its just that I dont see a point in using it, when my x9100 and 9800m gtx reach 65C and 70C respectively at full load (2 hours playing UT3, on native all high).

I will definately be using it in the summer though, when ambient temps are much higher.
