Hi, ive got an x305 q701 with the 9700M GTS

Now i found a person who would sell me a 9800MGTS SLI from a x300 from EU

From the connectors it looks the same !

Does it fit into my x305 ? does the bios recognice it ? would be sooo great!

pls help me fast cause he maybe sells it to one other..

*edit* Damn i saw the intel is upgradeable to the 9800mgtx.. does intel chipset recognice the 9800mgts sli ?

It's not really about the intel chipset. It's mostly about your bios, the connector of the GPU, the space inside your notebook and the power requirements.

It should work but you'll probably need the 230W power supply.

yeah right the 9800m gts sli takes max 150W at load. My power supply has only 180W.

Ill try it and post my result here !

    Hi again!

I got the GPU.. and damn.. the connector has only 160Pins instead of 200

And the display connector is not soldered on the card. but that would be no problem.

But what about the connector.. did anybod try it to fit it in, maybe the pins are on the 160 pins the same and the 200 has only few more for some features.

Otherwise i would need a x300 board with nvidia chipset! damn it!

Probably should just resell it. Its odd that if it came from the same model laptop it would have a different mobo. THe 9700 should be based on the 9800 so it shouldnt be that much different performance wise. I have an 8700GT in my Toshiba and it plays games very well.

nope in the x305s there a diffrent mobos.

one with nvidia chipset and one with pm45 like my board.

And the performance of the 98GTS SLI is amazing. it reaches double points in 3dmark 06 about 14.500 points.

if it wont fit ill buy a new board. but maybe someone tryed it ???

    Hello,

Very interested to see how you get on with this.

I think you need to be very careful with the resolutions that the graphics cards are configured to work with.

I tried going the other way to fix my laptop and could not get any life out of my laptop (stock is 9800GTX & 1650x1050 screen) with a 9700M GTS graphics card in it. I thought it was down to the different resolutions which the cards are set to use?

I've just posted my experiences in my thread here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/toshiba/619538-toshiba-qosmio-x300-repair-help.html#post8014401

As I'm currently trying to repair my laptop.

    Thanks,
    Michael

Why should the 9800m gts sli do not work cause of the resoultion ??

Im pretty sure that the 98m gts sli can scale down to 1440x990 and at bios boot up the resolution is always low.

did ur card gets warm , does it boot ? (hear windows sound, harddisk running)
think u just got a bad card.

    200pin connector ??

Well when I had the 9700 GTS installed in my laptop (X300-11W) I got no sign of life on the screen, when the same card is installed in the original laptop it came with which has a broken 1440x900 screen it lights up even though the screen is broken so its at least powering up the machine further. I presumed this was down the the bios or maybe even cable that's its using?

I agree that the card itself is capable but I thought that some graphics card bios might be set for the screen resolution the laptops sold with, otherwise I can't see why the 9700 GTS does not POST or show life on my laptop.

I've not tried changing any of the video cables over as I'm unsure if they are interchangeable and I don't know how many pins they but the connection into the graphics cards were the same.

I don't understand, my laptop uses an Intel Chipset.

    mhm.. sounds weird.

the 40-pin connector for the display should be the same, may you can look if there are different wire colors!

The x305 with Pm45 chipset should be upgradeable from 9700mgts to 9800mGTX
so it must be backwards compatible too.

my 9800m gts does not work in my pm45, so i need the board with 160pin connector and nvidia chipset for 150€ ):
