What is this new laptop I'm seeing, without any specs. I see it for sale on a lot of sites, but no specs listed. Is it non-existant? Or is it just so new, they haven't posted specs yet? I think I also saw a q704...?? I wonder how many new ones they will be coming out with. Do you think this means the others will come down in price...like the 706? That's the one I'm waiting for.

Buy dot com has basic info on this model. I wouldn't bother with it though - 1440x900 is a big no-no for a 17" screen.

If you haven't bought a Q706 yet, you might want to wait for April, that's when Toshiba releases the X305 replacement.

Where did you get this information? I recall you also having said earlier in the late Spring/Summer we would see some notebooks with Core i7 processors as well?

ok, so I want to know why excatly 1440x900 is a bad resolution for 17" screens? Me Personaly I would prolly prefer that res to make things easier to read. I have seen 1900x1200 laptops at best buy and , for the life of me I can't figure out what the big deal is about them. websurfing, watching shows on the laptop, 90% of what people do day to day would look better in my opinion on a 1440 than a 1900. Only ultra gamers would see the 1900 as a must have. And even then most games still have issues playing full bore on this resolution with the current notebook video cards offered. So, please tell me why this is such a bad resolution? Maybe there is something I am missing.

It's the Q725 without the SSD.

EDIT: I'd expect a 2nd version of the Q706 to come with a P8600 [or hopefully P8700], as the SLi1 saw a few upgrades in the CPU department. I'm looking at getting a T9800/CF 3870s for $2400 soon, but nvidia has better driver support and would get a Q706 redux with a better processor

So you think the new 706 version will be more expensive? Cuz $2000 is above my budget already, LOL! I look everyday for a sale :)

It might be and it might not. Keep an eye on newegg and on toshiba direct. I'd wait a few weeks to see what comes and at this point it seem that toshiba's site will give the better price and that newegg will have a premium on any newly launched notebook. My bet is that the Toshiba site will have the new laptop [if there is one] at $2k and the existing Q706 will drop $100-$200, I bet it would drop soon enough anyway as newegg has the 706 at $2k now as the regular price now where it was $2200 and anything less was listed as a sale before.

I don't really understand the prices. New Egg originally had the 706 for 2k. Then, they went up to $2200...not sure why....and now they're back down to 2k. You can get it from Toshiba (but apparently it takes weeks to get anything from them, so that's not really an option) for 2k and Amazon for $1929. Believe me, I look at all these places everyday, watching for changes. Toshiba has taken some of their Qosmios off the site, probably so they can put up some new ones soon....I'm watching!
