Just purchased this unit, got it from J&R. Great price, under $1600.
First impression: I actually like the color scheme. The laptop feels solid, the hinges are firm enough. Speakers are phenomenal, the subwoofer actually lends a substantial bass -- a surprising and effective amount of bass. The speakers even look good.
Small touch: I like having a button to disengage the touchpad. My wife's Acer lacks any such button and it was a pain finding the control to turn it off.
I could care less about 3D, but that aside, the screen is brilliant.
Bloatware: yes, there's a lot, and scarily enough some of it is apparently tied to the functioning of the Start menu -- since I deleted a lot of bloatware and then the menu-function of the Start menu stopped working. System restore back to the last Restore point solved the problem. You have to be very careful what you delete -- which is irritating.
Minor annoyance: the 3D light on the control bar is evidently not a button at all, just an indicator. Pressing it makes it go dark... and then it lights back up again. Pressing it seems to do nothing at all.
I'd prefer the heat duct vent out the rear of the laptop rather than the left side, but that's a personal preference. The oversized battery is actually a plus, as it lifts the laptop's bottom up a bit and let's it breathe... and is probably why they couldn't put the vent out the back.
I've thrown everything from Fallen Earth (MMORPG), LOTRO (MMORPG), Civilization 3 (yes, 3) and 4... it runs all of them easily. I turned LOTRO's settings up to max -- runs smoothly. Very nice.
I usually dislike chiclet keys, but this is a very nice keyboard. The keys feel solid and have a nice resistance to them. I can easily speed-type on here with few mis-types.
As always, I would have liked to see system disks in the box. Guess that's a fleeting fancy, though, since most don't do this anymore.
So far, using HW Monitor, the laptop has hit 74 degrees at its peak, under load, during LOTRO. If that's as hot as its gonna get, Fantastic. :)

I'll write more later. Top Gear just started, and as this is my favorite TV show... I'll come back to writing more after the show's over.

Were you able to install the latest nvidia drivers for this lap-top? Because I have the same lap-top as you and other then not being able to install the latest nvidia drivers I love my lap-top. :)

Haven't tried to, yet. The Toshiba video drivers are dated to late May (I believe) and haven't had any issues yet. I'm sure I'll eventually run into something and then have to update the driver, and I'll find out at that point if the generic Nvidia drivers work... but right now, I can't comment.

Laptop has handled even the old games I've thrown at it without a hassle, so I'm duly impressed. Civ3, Civ2, Alpha Centauri (with the usual steps to make it work), Planescape Torment (the best of the Baldur's Gate-engine games, in my opinion)... it just keeps rockin'. No complaints.

Heat still hasn't exceeded 75 degrees, despite several hour-long sessions with various MMOs. Still wish the heat could be vented out the back, but as long as it stays at that temp, I'm not going to complain too much. :)

Use a program that measure temperatures while gaming, like HWmonitor.

You'll see the CPU gets into the 80s (if not higher).
Don't worry, Alienware and MSI also get to these temperatures.

Here's an Alienware m17x.R3; do notice it does have a slightly higher clocked 2720QM.

Hy, I am on the verge of buying the 3D version of qosmio. However, my friends say I should buy Asus g74 (3D) instead. I really don't know what to do.
What is the WEI score for this laptop? Thanks

I have x775-3dv78 too and I had it about for a little over a month now. so far so good. I like it. only 3 things about this laptop bothers me.

    1. short battery life. I get barely get 1 hour watching avi movie file on battery, balance mode power setting. about 80c max on cpu temp at 100% load, 75c on gpu.

    2. glossy screen. whenever background goes black, i see my reflection too clearly. it's just disturbing.

    3. no upgrade on gpu driver. you can't use any of nvidia's official driver update on this one including their latest 280.26 driver. toshiba is still stuck at its launch driver 268.51. it sux.

    Now, as for pros

    1. great keyboard and 120hz 3d screen.

    2. great performance and spec for price. I paid $1749 for mine but it's going for $1699 now at newegg.

    3. best speaker ever and light weight

well.. i always hated asus g7x models due to their big bulky size and power cord being on right side and optical drive on left side. I don't think its battery life is much better than toshiba one and their price is $300 higher for same spec. at least you get matte screen and gpu driver upgrade. choice is yours.

Thanks for the info. I was asking about performance because I read some reviews which showed better game framerates for the asus.I know it is not by much, but I fear that in 3d mode, the diference might be visible. What I really like about the qosmio si the speaker, this is a great plus. The backlit keyboard is also nicer than asus.
