Hi I finally ran out of working space on my 128gb z830 only 98 gb of which was available. So I created a recovery usb and deleted the 10.8 gb recovery partition. the problem is I can not expand my 98 gb partition. The option is greyed out and the old 10.8 gb recovery partition is gone.

So I seem to be missing some space which i'd very much like to gain back....

thanks in advance- I'm sure others have been through this agony

Since my post I think I know why...because the partition I deleted is not immediately to the right of it- It is my hibrination partition (8gb) to the right...I want to delete this entirely but it won't let me - HELP

Not sure how to advise you on this problem. If no one else is able to help, I can move this thread to the hardware subforum.

Just post here if you want it moved.
    Good luck

Thanks. I actually solved the problem. I got ACRONIS Disk Director and I could delete and merge all the volumes exactly how I wanted them. So, now instead of a bunch of useless partitions, I have 118 gb of usable SSD space, up from 98, out of the total 128 gb. It was the best 44 bucks I ever spent.

I am not sure if you wish to move this or not, but I think it should go to a place that will be seen by all Z830 users. I know from the Z830 thread that this issue is frustrating many owners and TOSHIBA made it impossible to address this using disk manager in win 7, by making the hibernation partition un-deletable as well as by placing it between the available hard drive partition and the recovery partition, thus making it impossible to join the recovery partition to the available hd space, even if one does not require this any longer because one has made a recovery image.

Good to hear. I'll add "z830" to the thread title to make it easier for portege owners.

I installed the trial version and although it had the move and merge partition functionality, it was not clear to me how to move the recovery partition next to the main drive so I could merge them. Do you remember what exact steps you used?

You actually don't need to "move" it around. I just merged the main volume with the empty recovery volume. However, the trial version allows you to go through the motions, but won't actually carry out (or "commit") to the merge until you buy the full version. I ended up buying the full version. Hope this helps.
