I have decided that I want to try to liquidate my massive stock of CF27s by the end of the year. I've got approximately 60 CF27s in my basement, and I would estimate that 15-20 of them are CF27R models. These are the first generation CF27, with a pentium 266 processor. I think, realistically, these are beyond the point where I could hope to profit from them, so I wanted to see if anyone was interested in them before I (gasp!) disassemble them for scrap.
they'll all be bare-bones of course (i.e. no HD/caddy/battery/floppy/AC adapter/anything else)and they'll have a keyboard that's missing a keycap or two, or sun-yellowed. they'll be missing the back cover (because I need them for my PII-300s and PIII-500s) but I think I've got enough of the other covers to go around. I've got some 12" and some 10" screens, but I haven't counted how many of each yet. and I'll of course make sure they boot up before shipping them.
the only "catch" is you have to pay shipping. One fits nicely in a flat-rate box, two in a large flat-rate box. I think that would be the cheapest shipping option no matter how many you want. If you have a better idea, just let me know.
I've got lots of misc. CF27 parts too, so if there's some little part you need, I can probably ship that out for cheap.
I'll wait at least a week before scrapping anything. Let me know ASAP if you want one (or more) of these!

Sorry, I don't have any doors that I need to keep open... most of my newer doors have a high tech gadget on their called a door stopper. If I see any doors that I need to keep open though, I will definitely PM you

Sorry, I had to!!!

Any idea how much shipping to the UK would cost? I've got a cf 27 mk1 and want to upgrade the mobo on the cheap.
A carrying handle wouldn't go amiss either( mine's missing). -
Well the 27R is the MkI model (P-266) so I'm not sure how effective of an "upgrade" that would be
I've still got a PII-300 or two with the 10" screen if you would have any interest in that. (No, you can't swap screens from the 27R to the 27E unfortunately..)
Worst-case shipping would be a USPS flat-rate box. I've got lots of handles too!
Gotta hurry tho.. I've been scrapping all weekend. I made sure to set aside two or three of the nicest 27Rs though! -
Grav... I'll bet you could sell them on ebay as a CARPUTER base! If they wired them in their trunk or under the seat and ran a 7" touchscreen in the dash... Then ran Linux... That would make an excellent carputer base don't you think?
Just a thought... -
I would not mind a couple of them Gravitar for some testing. XD
Let me know. -
Ooops...no, not much of an upgrade.
Would the P II 300 mobo fit in a 27 r casing?
Definitely like a handle if they're going cheap; spare case screws would also be good, if that's not too cheeky (I'm missing a couple from round the screen).
Cheers. -
Hmm... I've managed to break my Mk-II (PII 300)'s case. Amazing, I know. The piece that goes over the hinges is bent and the piece inside that you screw one of the screws into is broken. So, if it's possible to do a full transplant, to fix that problem, I'm probably interested in one of these (if you have any left, that is...). Tell me if you have any left and if so I'll move it to PM.
edit: Does this place even have a PM feature? Anyway, if you still have any floppy drives left, the 300MHz mobo fits in the 27R case, and you have any of these left, I'd like to get one of each, and put the floppy in the computer inside the flat-rate box to save shipping. -
I have a CF-27 running Puppy Linux 4.11 (soon to be upgraded to the bug-fix 4.12) and it runs pretty well. Model: CF-27RA48AAM
The Seamonkey Internet suite, common office apps, etc all work. A little slow but tolerable.
As others have mentioned elsewhere the keyboard is incredibly stiff and mine has a loose lid-hinge. (Is that adjustable or when they go they have to be replaced? The prior user had velcro on the wrist-rest area and that put leverage on the hinge when the lid was closed and latched)
The case paint is scuffed inside and out and the display is pink when first powered up but then clears up. Should I get a replacement display from you? Or is the video on the motherboard and this means it is dying? -
The display backlight is failing

Just curious. Got any left?
-
If so, I want one.
-
Yes, i would love it.

Newbs can't PM... You have to stick around and participate in order to earn that... Not being snotty or anything... Just those are the rules...
-
What, like you have to have a certain number of posts?
-
Yeah, supposedly it's 15... not quite there yet...
-
I'm afraid to ask if you found them or not. I need help. I have 3 cf-28s and 2 cf-27s. Somebody stop me before I Ebay again!!
Does anybody know where I can get a HDD caddy or optical drive caddy? I swear this is like a drug or something.
I can stop whenever I want. -
rickdog,
A hard drive caddy for what model?
CAP -
800mhz
I know that the 600mhz is different. The 600mhz is the shorter caddy, right? So the 600mhz will fit all and the 800 and the 1.0 will fit each other but not the 600. Is that right?
Thanks. -
That is correct!
EDIT... There is a guy who emails me all the time for parts, info and just to swap stories... He's in Wisconsin I think... He has a lot of CD Roms for $49 + shipping. -
CD rom with caddy for $49 +.
Not bad.
I think I would like to get one or two of those. -
rickdog,
I gather from your answer that you are looking for a caddy for a CF-28. I'm sorry but I've got no spares for them.
CAP -
What I'm most looking for is a couple of CF-28 HDD caddies. That seems the hard thing.
I'm almost tempted to HEAVILY mod a CF-27 HDD caddy. That would involve shortening it (L), lowering it almost 1/2" (H) and leaving the width alone, but moving the connector to the side. This would require a IDE connector ribbon and the stock CF-27 connector. -
I would be interested in one if you had any left. I do Motorola Canopy Broadband installs and basically all I need it for is a Browser to access the radio and prove I can connect and surf. I just bought a Pentium 2 off Bob Johnson computer stuff, and am in the process of getting cd rom and everything together for that, wouldnt take much if you had a bare chassis to put puppy or Small Linux on it. Let me know how much shipping would be to 04476(Maine)
Thanks -
Please read the main forum. Gravitar has recently passed away, so the offer in this post is pretty much done unless his family chooses to open it up again at a later time.
-
Sorry... It was forgetful of me to leave this thread open. If things change... I'll re-open it.
Anyone interested in free CF27R's? (P-266)
