I think it is a big help when we are all watching ebay and post popular items here. I am looking at a CF-29 on ebay that needs port covers as they are all missing so that would have been a big help. I hope the moderators don't mind the occasional ebay link. just wanted to put my 2 cents in so the moderators can get a feel for members reaction to post. thanks

    Yeah... I bought them....

Will... Your idea is a good one.... And it has been done before. The problem came when we had loyal forum members posting good deals on ebay links. It worked well for a few weeks/months.... But then Google started listing the thread anytime someone typed in "Toughbook Deal" or something similar. We had around 10 regular posting members that posted the deals.... But around 20,000 pages views. It was clear that others from outside were sweeping in on the deals we posted and ebay sellers were using it as a gauge as to what to sell their items. We saw several links where the toughbooks started out as a true deal.... The ebay seller came over, saw the link and then went back and raised his sales price.

So... Yes... It is a great idea in theory... But when you devote a thread to it... IT ends up taking on a life of its own.

With that all being said... I encourage anyone to post links to ebay when they think they see a good deal for one of our form members. I just don't think we would want another thread devoted to it. Ken (Springfield) did it right here... Now the item sold and I doubt this thread will have much more action.

    Agree with Rick on this

The occasional posting of a link in a separate thread is fine

A dedicated thread is not a good idea

For the benefit of the newer members here read these old threads

Here was our attempt at this

And here are the reasons we closed it here

The PM system on the forum works well
I remember the forum members that post their wanted items, and when I come across deals I PM them with a link

if Rick = Toughbook then, great point Rick. I was naive in thinking the post begin and end here on this forum. I never thought about the search engines picking up on our post here. too bad we can't block the searches
