8) I've had it. I've broken (3) GPS antennas off of this unit. I just don't want to deal with it any more. The GPS works great. You can get a replacement from www.rcatsystems.com ... If this doesn't sell within a few days it's going on EBAY. You can view all the images at http://www.attitude.net/toughbook-sale/ This system works very well, the included antennas are a small folding rubber-duck and an external magnetic mount. The machine is in very nice cosmetic condition except for the bottom but it's not "new" so there will be some nicks or scratches in the black-painted areas. The lid is in EXCELLENT condition as well as the interior of the system. It's missing the rear-feet (examine the pictures)... If you want to ask about a trade I might consider it but please don't insult me as I have sold alot of machines on ebay and I know what I can get for them. I've been away from the forum a long time. Maybe it's time to come back. (I still have 4 other CF-28s)
Here is the GPS receiver signal output (indoors!) using the RCATS antenna (sometimes called the "Jim Grey" antenna it's the Quadrifilliar Helix)

I forgot to put an .htaccess file in that directory but it's in place now, you'll be able to get a directory listing.

I just purchased another Helix Antenna for this unit. I will repair it and sell it for $600 firm.
-
Your labtop looks nice . How did you brake off the antenna? I have broken one my self.
-
one time it fell off my bed, the last two times it was "bumped"... the geohelix antenna is just so darned fragile. Today's bump was me carrying it and I brushed it against the edge of my desk. GRRR.
-
When you put it back together you might want to install the antenna flush with the grove to the lid. I the enlarged the RIM antenna plastic and bracket to fit over the GPS antenna cover. Its a tight fit ,but it can be done .This will give it some more support.

Terminus... Falling off the bed is one thing... Bumping it is another... These antennas should be able to handle a bump very easily.
With that said.. This is a heck of a system for the money. Just a little work needed to make it perfect. I've seen this system in my shop! You have the EM-408 with the RIM board, yes? Plus the $50 Engenous 600MW wifi card? You have about $800 in parts if you tear it all apart and sell it... I know you are frustrated... But you will probably sell it for a lot more on ebay if you spelled out EVERYTHING it has in it... Just some friendly advice from someone who has seen it and worked on it in the past.

Hi Rick, I know you're right. I just got tired of replacing the antenna, the hollow tube is just too fragile. I thought since I now have (5) CF-28s all built to the maximum it might be time to part with this unit. I priced it for a quick sell and also to be honest with the lousy economy I could certainly use the money.

Terminus,
Sent u a PM about this.

This unit has been sold. I will have one more unit for sale soon with the factory GPS. Stay tuned.
